Sarah Brings Jesus To The Eskimos?
Sarah Palin just announced she'll head to the Western Alaska villages of Marshall and Russian Mission tomorrow, and that she's going with the Rev. Franklin Graham -- president of the evangelical Christian aid group Samaritan's Purse.

Graham is the son of evangelist Billy Graham and president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Here's how Samaritan's Purse describes itself on its Web site: An "international Christian relief and evangelism organization (that) provides spiritual and physical aid to victims of war, poverty, natural disaster and disease."

4. Why do you keep posting the same thing over and over?
This has no relevance to this thread and I noticed the same thing in a couple of others. What is the purpose?

2. That's not a governor's job
Until she leaves office, she is breaching the wall between church and state. She is entitled to her faith, but when she uses her capacity as an elected representative to force that faith on others, she is over the line. Mark it zero, governor. You are out of your element!

3. I have some interesting local reactions
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 04:41 PM by Blue_In_AK
up in the Alaska forum (or my Journal) if you're interested. This is the most blatant pandering to her fundie base she's done yet. Almost two months after this crisis was first reported in the Tundra Times and after bloggers and others, including one Republican state representative, have organized huge relief efforts, Sarah is finally shamed into doing something -- waiting for the proper photo op, of course.

I can't tell you how much I despise this woman.

And as if the missionaries hadn't already done enough damage to the Native Alaskan peoples.

6. Maybe they can bring some food and fuel
Hell, that's needed a lot more than some faux-Jesus followers.

8. Whatever they bring will be conditional on how open the recipients' are to ...
... Jesus' representatives.

10. No doubt.

As I've said elsewhere, this is particularly galling given the Christian missionaries' history with Alaska's Native peoples.

I spent some time Thursday night with former Congressional candidate and Native Alaskan Diane Benson and a Tlingit friend of hers from Sitka, and they had some horrible tales to tell of how the Christian missionaries used to take the Native kids away from their families and put them in boarding schools hundreds of miles away from home, whipping them until they bled when they spoke their native language or referred to their ancient spiritual beliefs and ways.

I don't think any amount of charity (especially this very public and self-aggrandizing kind) can make up for the damage that has been done here by representatives of the Christian faith. And don't even get me started on the pedophile priests.

11. the xian missionaries did the same to the native people down here, as well--absolutely
sickening. and then there was the pain they inflicted on the natives of polynesia--even though it was a work of fiction, michener's "hawaii" did a credible job of detailing just what the xian missionaries brought to the islands.

9. They did take some food boxes out there,
but Sarah has yet to acknowledge the fact that she knew or should have known about this looming crisis way last summer when the salmon runs were off -- and certainly by October when the fuel barges were frozen out -- and she now wants to position herself as "coming to the rescue" (with Jesus, of course), without ever thanking the pathetic, anonymous bloggers who have picked up the slack over the past two months while she's been chasing the limelight.

21. Sounds exactly like a White Knight ...
... coming to the rescue of people who've been harmed by her negligence.

At the last minute and while the cameras are rolling.

5. This is SO outside a governor's realm of duty. Impeach.
Does she ever actually work for the citizens of Alaska?

12. Also, A sample of Sarah's command of the English language.
"Some of these areas … they may need to see some change in leadership within the community, also. For the leaders whom are looked to for guidance with the young people, that these leaders show them where opportunities are also. So they can, as I just mentioned, seize opportunities for jobs, at the same time being able to be such a strong part of their communities still. It is possible."

Also, get on that airplane and fly away!

13. Oh, yeah, that's classic Palin.
It's almost like the more people make fun of her "elocution," the more she tries to prove our point. I've never heard such a mangling of the English language. How about some vinaigrette with that word salad?

14. I went to school with lots of communication majors.
Most of them were too busy bed-hopping to actually read or study.

Just sayin'. I'm not suggesting that she is a cum guzzling slut at all.

16. or, as one of the local "news" directors told me when I had been complaining ceaselessly about
the illiterate slobs working for that station "they don't think they need good english" as a defense when I asked if all his "journalism school graduates" had all gone to the sarah palin school of journalism. I cannot even begin to fathom that sort of mental process.

15. gov lipstick, apart from the fact that I hear better english from non-native speakers, are you even
remotely aware that there is a serious recession going on? that THREE POINT FIVE MILLION jobs were lost last years, and that we have already lost over ONE POINT THREE MILLION since the first of the year? WHERE are these people supposed to get these jobs? ANWR? or with your husband's defunct company?

PLEASE, leave the stage, and, I BEG you, take some remedial english courses. start with english as a second language, because whatever it is that you speak, it certainly isn't standard english.

17. wtf kind of jobs are available on the tundra?
Hell, I spent 5 years in Alaska in the early 70s and never could figure out why so many white guys were working the pipeline and the Aleuts and Eskimos were drinking in Fourth Street saloons?

22. The change in leadership required starts in the Governor's office.
If the state can get rid of this self-serving grifter first and replace her with someone honest and competent, it would only help these communities, and everyone else in Alaska.

19. Sarah saves the day again!
It is just too bad that these people have been suffering and trying to get help for over 5 weeks already. They don't need any religion shoved in their faces. They absolutely shouldn't have to embrace Christianity to receive aid.

I can't wait to see the pictures of this stunning mission on Sarah's official website.

I'm sure it will show up there, as well as the State of Alaska website which she tends to appropriate as her own, sort of a like a Facebook page.

20. Ever seen The Journals of Knud Rasmussen?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478366/

It's pretty much about just that - using 'charity' to destroy a culture. It's by the Inuit director Zacharias Kunuk, who made Fast Runner. It's perhaps one of the most beautifully sad movies I've ever seen.
