Like most of you, I follow DU as often as I can. Sometimes I feel

the need to check the profile of the poster see if the topic is regional or could be of interest to our area at some point in the future.

Frequently there is no state listed or there is posted some comment like state of denial (where I am frequently outside of DU). I am not being critical, I am searching for knowledge.

I realize we all have the right to privacy but when something is of interest, I don't know whether it applies to Calif, Florida, my neck of the woods, wherever.

I can see why no town would be listed (mine isn't) but the state would be general enough.

Any other thoughts on this?

2. that is an interesting thought. i use profile often to better understand the person

and yes i think place has something to say, gender and infor they share.

i have where i live, but it is misleading. i am in texas, but grew up in az, mostly calif and nevada for a while, so to see texas gives a wrong impression, seeing the other states clears a lot up

You think if you list Texas people here will judge you. I get the feeling that sometimes when people know I'm from Oklahoma that I must be a hick or uneducated or "horrors" not liberal enough. DUers can sometimes be big old hypocrites. It's one of my daily irritations as I wade through posts trying to find something interesting or enlightening. It's not just this subject either.

4. well, ya, it is a huge part of the problem, lol. a mere sentence a person types can

give the poster all they need to know about the person. then they take over to tell you who you are, what you think and you no longer even need to have a conversation with the person cause they have decided everything, putting you in a nice, neat tidy little box with a bow on it. lol

it is an amazing phenomenon. i tend to ask questions, instead of telling the person who they are. works better for me
