Vandeveld reflects on stand he took against terror prosecutions at Guantanamo Bay


Darrel Vandeveld, a military lawyer tasked with prosecuting terror suspects at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp, sat at a colleague's desk this past summer, waiting on a phone call.


His eyes came to rest on a binder to his side.

He knew the case -- it concerned one of the U.S. soldiers accused in the murder of a prisoner at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. So nothing on the pages came as a surprise -- until Vandeveld hit the name Mohammed Jawad.
