Area resident declares himself a 'nuisance'
FAIRFIELD TWP. — Terry Brashear on Monday wrapped yellow caution tape around his property and posted a large sign in his yard as a protest.
Last month the township's zoning department cited Brashear for several violations. The violations included storing commercial vehicles and commercial equipment on residential property, and failing to meet the criteria for operating a business on residential property.
Brashear has owned and operated Brashear Contracting out of his Hamilton-Mason Road home for 17 years.
"I run my business out of my trucks," he said, referring to the six work trucks — two of which are non-functional — he keeps parked on his property.
The zoning department gave Brashear 10 days to comply. When he failed to do so, on Feb. 27 trustees declared his property a nuisance.
In addition to the caution tape, Brashear fired back at the township Monday by posting a plywood sign that bore "I Am a Nuisance" painted in red letters.
