Iran warns US against launching attack
TEHRAN — A senior Iranian military official warned the US against launching any attack on the Islamic republic, a news agency reported yesterday, two days after the United Nations (UN) imposed new sanctions on the country.

“If America starts a war against Iran, it won’t be the one who finishes it,” Morteza Saffari, naval forces commander of the elite Revolutionary Guards, was quoted as saying by the ISNA news agency.

“Our people will not even allow one American soldier to enter our country,” Saffari said.

International tension over Iran’s disputed nuclear programme has risen in recent days, sending oil and gold prices higher. Western countries suspect Iran is seeking to make atom bombs, a charge Tehran denies.

1. If the US wanted to topple the Iran regime, it could ....
***Please read my entire post before responding.***

The Americans toppled the Hussein regime in roughly one to two months. Would a war with Iran take longer? Yes, but not by much. Even Afghanistan, a country the USSR could not beat in 10 years, we beat in a few weeks.

What will happen is that we will encounter a problem similar to Iraq, but on a much larger scale, with attempting to secure the peace. Oil prices will break $200 since global oil production will be at a standstill practically. Our budget debt annually will soar to close to $1 trillion, or roughly $10,000 per household. In other words, we will break this country trying to save the problem we will create in Iran.

2. Good points.
One minor thing - we didn't beat the Taliban because they are still there and growing again by the day. I think the Communists had the same problem in trying to *occupy* Afghanistan, not in the initial invasion.

3. The US beat Afghanistan... ?
... last I looked some US troops stayed at some strongholds and did some patrols in armored vehiceles and drove in an ambush now and then.

Rushing into a coutry with no army is one thing.
Controlling a country is a much different story.

The USSR beat Afghanistan the same way the US did.
They went in, built bases, spent tons of money and personnel... but after 10 years decided it was not worth it.

Afghanistan was a scape goat. A quick and easy target to strike at when a great nation was totally disoriented and didn't know what hit it but wanted to hit back... anywhere... just to state "don't mess with us! We'll hit back!"

What exactly did the US achieve in Afghanistan?
In reality! Not some soft goals like "women's rights" or "freedom".
Nothing, except a statement that the US can invade and mess up any country they choose to.
But that's no big deal for a nation that spends half of its budget on the military.

Invasions never work.
Have never worked.
Only work if you totally eradicate the endemic people.
That's how it works since the romans.
Invaders face resistance until they are gone or the resistants are all dead.
