3. In my wifes case, not the faintes clue

that she recognized before the "s---" hit the fan for her. She woke up one morning with one eye filled with blood from retinopathy. That was the first clue that she had diabetes. Unfortunately, went down hill for her from that point on.

Go immediately and get checked. This is a deadly disease. It killed my sister, but not before she lost a leg to sepsis caused by neuropathy, and had a kidney transplant, which failed after 12 years.

I angers me that this disease is not curable. It has all to do with the Pharma's, IMHO. Bastards. They make more money treating this insidious disease.

7. I would break into a sweat and start shaking...

I always thought I had low blood sugar, so I would eat candy, that seemed to take care of it.

The day I realized that I had a serious problem, I had the same symptoms as before, shaking and sweating; but I also became very disoriented. I was at Kmart, and walked into a pole. For a few scary seconds, I couldn't remember where I was, or why.

I don't know if one can "blackout" and remain on their feet, but that's what it felt like.

On edit: The big one, is sores that no longer healed fast and the appearance of the healing had changed.

get screened regularly.

You might feel tired, run down.

You might feel little stabs of pain in your feet.

You might have a big appetite for carbs due to fluctuating blood sugar levels. You want to eat again after two hours.

If you already have high blood pressure, you could have metabolic syndrome. It goes like this: overweight, then high blood pressure, then diabetes and/or heart disease. You can interrupt that progression if you get treatment.

Apple shaped body? People who carry a lot of weight around their waists are more susceptible to diabetes.

11. Carb lust

Now I have protein lust. I still enjoy carbs, but don't crave them nearly as much.

I also got the shakes from fluctuating blood sugar.

I am still not actually diabetic, but right at the line. Diet is what helped. And not even a big change. Just awareness and being prudent about what I eat.
