So, I'm in church where I never talk politics...
(I really am big on the separation of church and state)...and this 86 year old woman, whom I've NEVER known to express an opinion about ANYTHING (and, one of the kindest, gentlest souls you would ever meet)...

(Before going on with this story, this being a Middle-Georgia Baptist Church, I wouldn't have dreamed to have heard this from anyone other than me...but, I told you, I don't talk politics in church)

She stops me in the hallway, and under her breath says to me: I can tell you how to end the war right now! Surprised, I said, "How's that?" She says, "Put George Bush in a uniform, hand him a gun, and ship him to Iraq! That would end it just like that (snapping her fingers).

I break my rule and say to her..."yeah, or at least send his daughters." She answered, "You know, he doesn't have any problem sending other people's kids over there to get killed, does he?"

At that point, we were being interrupted. I am sure glad to know that some women who grew up in a patriarchal world, in a church that for years preached the "women submit to your husband" b.s. are finding their voices. (BTW, I'm a white male...and, this church has changed its ways over the past decade, and is now a "progressive" church..but, this woman had been a member for more than 50 years.)

3. People are getting a clue
and coming to their senses...

The next step is to get them to take action, but it will be harder.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that we will not see major change until the die-hard Republicans abandon the president.

I think that's why I get so mad about how much they are bashed here. We need REPUBLICAN SUPPORT in order to end the war.

5. Yeah, it's pretty sad that this war, for a long time anyway..
has been a "Republican War" and therefore became a political rather than a moral issue.

7. I told this story to a friend of mine who knew this lady,
and she couldn't believe it, either. It was the last thing I expected to hear from her...just out of the blue.

8. My 98 year old Grandmother (passed recently) cussed Bush to the end
she was a teacher for 48 years...and got to her school house by horse-and-buggy. I miss her terribly. She was the ultimate Patriarch of our family.

10. I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother...
for your personal sake, and for the sake of our country. (We need all the Bush cussers we can get!)

12. I helped celebrate a woman's 100th birthday Sunday
afternoon. She's in the hospital mending a broken hip. Still has a sharp mind, as was your grandmother's.

Quite a treasure we have in these folk. Someone should travel around interviewing them, and write a book.

19. My grandmother is also 100 years old (last December)
She is sharp, still lives alone, entertains all the time and hates our president with a passion for what he has done to our country that she loves. Her church knows her views too.

21. You know, perhaps the Dems need to start targeting
people over 80, and help those in assisted living cast their ballots!!

Unless she liked to cross-dress as a man!

Jim Marshall (a DINO Zell Miller wannabe), and the Senators are SUXby Chambliss and Johnny iSUXsan.

17. Stealth liberals.
They abide in every congregation. A "remnant", if you will, of the early church. They seek each other out, huddling together for warmth and security. They read the Bible, and shake their heads and mutter to themselves, wondering where in the world the righteous are coming up with this crap. This liberal, not exactly stealthily, walked out of church the first Sunday after 9/11 when a member of the congregation thanked God for the Christian in the White House, and thanked God a second time that the heathen Al Gore had been defeated. Now, I study the Bible. I read Sojourners and Antipas. I aspire to "seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly". Five and a half years through the seven year GWB tribulation, I wait for his revealing as a "man of iniquity", a liar, and a murderer. When the false prophets are exposed, when the harlot is uncovered, when the bride recovers her purity and her mission-then the church will prosper again.

20. As an old feminist, I can tell you that this woman had probably
always had these thoughts. Now as an elderly peprson, she feels she can speak out. This is a very freeing happening for many old folks who have been under the thumb of others during their entire life time.

23. Actually, if I were Barb or Jenna, I wouldn't really want to bet on...
...Daddy ending his war to keep me out of harm's way.

Not if he could use my funeral as a really kick-ass photo op.
