Vet Says Walter Reed Refused To Test Him For Depleted Uranium Exposure - Imus won't talk about this

SOCORRO, New Mexico (STPNS) -- A U.S. Army veteran of the war in Iraq will be speaking Friday night at the Socorro Public Library.

Staff Sergeant Herbert Reed of the New York National Guard said he was exposed to Depleted Uranium while serving in Iraq in 2003, and that he has had numerous health problems because of the exposure which the Army and Veteran’s Administration refuse to treat. snip

“Personnel from the Dutch army yelled at us to get out of the area, that is was contaminated and not safe,” Reed told the Mountain Mail. “Not too much later I was experiencing pain and other symptoms.”

Reed said his gums bleed and a tumor has been removed from his thyroid.

“I have rashes erupting everywhere and the itching is constant,” he said. “I have migraines everyday, and my joints ache constantly.”

Reed said he told doctors at Walter Reed Army Hospital that there was something terribly wrong in his body, but they refused to test him for depleted uranium poisoning while he recovering from wounds.

1. Perhaps Imus doesn't know about this. I will e-mail him the story;
he seems pretty open to ragging on Walter Reed and soldier mistreatment.

2. Hope you are right but Imus was at Walter Reed before the WaPo story broke
He went there with McCain and apparently neither of them seen anything out of order. I am not sure how that can be?

6. Didn't they ask to talk to some wounded soldiers or something while they were there?
Seems kind of pointless to even go if they didn't talk to some soldiers. Unless they were there just for the photo-op that is.

4. I have read that WR brought high-profile 'visitors' to only the most
pristine of places there, so it's conceivable that they never saw the Bldg. 18's. There were many politicians who were also kept in the dark. But now that the truth has been revealed, people like Imus are railing. You don't have to like him to appreciate his efforts regarding the vets, and that goes for anyone who is trying to expose the abuses, Dem or rethug. McCain has been surprisingly mum on this, I'm thinking...

8. Right.
Rather than make an unsupported claim that places responsibility on Imus, it might make more sense to bring it to his attention. I would suspect that if a dozen DUers e-mailed the story to the show, it might get some attention.

10. As the wind blows and the climate changes...
how long will it be before all that DU spreads across the world and contaminates us all?

11. DU is what follows the troops home - not terrorists

all the troops should routinely be checked for DU poisoning.

and any troops hoping for a pregnancy should be tested before conception.

12. It won't happen without there being great public pressure applied.
The consequences of DU exposure can be severe and life-long. Imagine the expense of treating these poor people. The refusal to test is yet another example of how the fed. gov. support our troops. :sarcasm:
