If the maximum donation is $2300, how does a candidate end up

2. Clearly there must be 434.78 people there.
Alternatively they count Corporate donations or donations to the RNC, maybe?

5. Also
If you check on who contributes what, you'll notice that there are some major companies with rabid Republican CEOs in which all upper management contributes to Republican candidates. They have to to keep their jobs.

6. some people bring bundles of checks
they ask their friends, family and coworkers to give, then they bring the checks with them so they get credit for raising the money.

7. The ones who attend come with a list of others
so even if you have only 1,000 at a fund event - not unusual - in reality there may have been 5,000 of them.
