ABC: McNulty and Schumer have longstanding friendship of many years
I recall hearing speculation that Schumer has a source in the DOJ... could McNulty be it?

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=2983066&page=1

<snip>

But McNulty, who worked on Capitol Hill 12 years, believed he had little choice but to more fully discuss the circumstances of the attorneys' firings, according to a a senior Justice Department official familiar the circumstances. McNulty believed the senators would demand additional information, and he was confident he could draw on a long relationship with New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, in explaining in more detail, sources told ABC News.

In doing so, however, McNulty went well beyond the scope of what the White House cleared him to say when it approved his written testimony the week before the hearing, according to administration sources closely involved in the matter.

...

In the prep session, which occurred in the Justice Department the afternoon before he testified, McNulty emphasized that he had a longstanding friendship with Schumer and that he could smooth things over with the senior Democrat.

The two met when Schumer was a New York representative and McNulty was counsel to the House Subcommittee on Crime, and later chief counsel to the House majority leader. McNulty became deputy attorney general in March 2006, after serving as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Others in the room for the Feb. 5 prep session, including senior lawyer David Margolis, believed McNulty should merely assure Congress the administration had a "reasoned basis" for the decision but not specify what it was. McNulty strongly disagreed, the source said.

In the last document dump, this was at the bottom of several of the pages included -

I do believe that he was the one that contributed the latest dump from his own files!

10. I wonder McNulty ever hung out at the "Animal House."
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/Politics/story?id=2942649&page=1&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312

March 12, 2007 — A pair of white jockey underwear sits on a bookshelf in the living room. Rat traps adorn nooks and crannies of the dilapidated kitchen. In the refrigerator — a jar of olives maybe five or six years old. In the freezer, venison at least twice, if not three times, as old. Two sagging unmade beds with dingy sheets stand forlornly in opposite corners of the living room.

Believe it or not, this is where four of the most powerful men in the U.S. Congress live when they're in Washington. The number two and three leaders of the U.S. Senate — Majority Whip Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Democratic caucus Vice Chairman Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. — share this house with Rep. Bill Delahunt, D-Mass., the chairman of a key House subcommittee on human rights, and their landlord, Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee and the House Democratic Policy Committee.

All four have houses in their home districts, but crash in this two-bedroom townhouse near the Capitol whenever they overnight in the nation's Capitol, which is quite often. One March night, the four allowed, for the first time, TV cameras into their humble living quarters — Delahunt calls it a "hovel" — to discuss their interesting arrangement over some pizza and beer.

"I'm sure think we live in big mansions down here with a lot of servants," Schumer says of their house, which in terms of décor and cleanliness compares unfavorably with the fraternity this reporter belonged to in college.

12. There is more
than one faction in the administration. Thus, he can be both.

15. In my opinion,
there is a very good chance that in ten days or less, the information provided in this thread will be viewed as of greater significance than it is today.
