Seriously, what is it? A new form of IM?

Do I want to get involved?

Will it endear me to younger people?

Will I seem more hip?

Can I use it at the nursing home?

Is it okay to use in restaurants?

Seriously .... what IS it?

Ignore the picture. I can't help myself.

2. You are not alone
I've never twittered either.

I'd never 'Facebooked' until last month when my 84 year old British parents sent me a link to their Facebook page!!

3. Think email distribution list. Short messages. Phones can receive them too.

Gawd this is getting tedious.

And it's not a republican plot.

EDIT: Clarified subject. And google is your friend, not your enemy.

15. Seems like R's are getting caught putting the 'twit' in twitter lately
One of 'em posted last night that they should be at a ballgame rather than at the Obama joint session speech, and later had to 'tweet' that that post should be disregarded because it was from his staffer.

Honestly, I don't know any more about it than you, except the R's use it and I want to stay away.

16. Your answers, in order:
Sooooortakinda; Bloo's "email distribution list for short messages" is a closer answer, but people do use it as a kind of delayed IM a lot of the time. The uses vary wildly by individual; some folks use them for announcements, some for conversations, some for hey-look-at-this-link-I-just-found, etc. Anyone who says "twitter is used for (single task)" is wrong.

I dunno, do you?

Depends on the younger person.

Also depends on the audience.

You can.

Sure, if your phone's set to vibrate like a civilized person.

See the first answer.

21. I started twitter over the last few weeks
I had heard Karl Rove was on there and I wanted to hound him, so I joined. I now send out what I call (tweets from the future!) that talk about how he is in prison, or on the lamb or bush is on the stand now crying etc. Karl followed me (how you connect to each others groups) as well so I think he gets them still, but not sure if he reads them (I hope he does). Most people use it to link small messages, and its already been breaking news stories faster than real news organizations, so speed wise it is getting info out there quickly.

You can get links to stories, or send friends quick bursts of what you just did, send out quotes, link news or other useless tid bits or pics.

I was thinking of making the sequel to twitter using only 130 words, but someone would only come out with 120 word twitter :(
