The SF Chronicle's woes have been making headlines today. Here's a list of other papers on the brink. (I know, it's Real Clear Politics, but somebody linked to it.)
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/lists/top_10_newspapers_in_trouble/Besides the Chron, and a raft of smaller papers in the few remaining two-paper towns (the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, already pulled back from the cliff once, apparently isn't even worth mentioning), there are a few stunners: the Miami Herald (Miami doesn't even have a giveaway fish wrap like the SF Examiner!), the NY Daily News (that would leave the Post and its chimp cartoons pretty much unchallenged in between the Times' bases in Manhattan and the wealthier 'burbs) and (!!) the LA Times (the nation's second-largest city left with just the
Daily News?! Ye gods!)
