Thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's to let us know your thoughts on this unfortunate incident.

This restaurant is an independently owned McDonald's and an insurance claim is still pending. As such, it is not appropriate for us to comment on it, however, the owner/operator, Ray Nosler, has shared the following statement publicly about this case:

February 24, 2009
My highest priority is the safety and security of my customers and employees.

I stand behind Nigel Haskett. I believe he acted as a Good Samaritan. Concerning the critical matter of his medical expenses, it is important to note that the Arkansas Worker's Compensation Commission ultimately decides the outcome of his claim. As part of this process, Nigel's case will be presented to a Worker's Compensation judge, who will review all of the facts and decide on the case's merits.

McDonald's supports Nigel's claim, and fully anticipates the judge in this process will find in Nigel's favor. As a safeguard, if for some reason his claim is denied, and other insurance options are unavailable, I intend to cover the cost of his medical expenses.

I'm doing this because it's the right thing to do for Nigel.

Ray Nosler, McDonald's Owner/Operator

9. Your post is incorrect.

His medical expenses have not been covered. The manager promises to cover them if the victim's claim is denied, but it can take years for appeals. Meanwhile the guy doesn't have the money to even visit the doctor.

"If Haskett's claim is ultimately denied, the owner says he intends to personally "cover the cost of his medical expenses."

But Haskett's appeals process could take years, and the restaurant has said nothing about covering a lifetime of surgeries and expenses.

Meanwhile, Haskett said he can't afford to see a doctor, and a bullet remains lodged near his spine. He's been told he should never lift heavy objects again, he said."

10. EXCEPT that he needs to see a doctor NOW and can't.
All of which would be moot if we had universal single payer health care. But noooooooooooo.

14. I'm sorry, I don't care what they do. I refuse to eat that shit.
Used to be, as you traveled around the country, you would get a regional feel for each micro area. I just drove from San Jose to Tucson and back. All you can find, at every fork in the road, at every intersection, in every town, in every city, at every truck stop, etc. etc. is the same old, corporate, mass produced, fat filled, sugar filled, hormone filled, salt filled crap from sea to shining sea. Well, fuck them, I'm not eating it and I don't need a boycott to convince me that this is the correct course of action. All I need is the pill that helps me escape the corporate matrix.

15. DON'T STOP the McDonald's Boycott
If you read the letter closely, McDonald's has yet to do the right thing. BOYCOTT MCDONALD'S.

Yes, the franchise owner says he will cover Mr. Haskett's medical expenses if need be, but not until denial of Haskett's claim has run its full course. This process might take weeks, months, or even years. In the meantime (according to an ABC News story), Haskett can not afford to receive the medical care he needs.

Why can't McDonald's or its franchise owner do the right thing? Pay for Haskett's immediate medical needs, and then collect re-payment from Haskett if Haskett wins his appeals?

Recently there was a similar case involving Dollar Tree. An employee murdered on the job. The workers comp insurance carrier denied the claim. Although the denial is in appeal, Dollar Tree stepped in and did the right thing: paid out the workers comp claim and made sure the dead employee's minor son is taken care of.

Unless McDonald's or the franchise owner does the same, both are just giving lip service to caring about Nigel Haskett
