"Chris Matthews MUST GO!!! Bigotry has no place on MSNBC."
Per the Freeps:

"Chris Matthews under the breath curse before Gov. Jindal spoke last night is evidence of his anti-Indian bigotry and he must go..."

Did anyone here pick up on that?

You just can't make this stuff up, or can you?. :eyes:

2. He said, "Oh God".
Widely reported. That it was due to his ancestry is freep 'conclusion'. I think it was due to the fact that normally it begins with the speaker already seated and camera in place. Jindal was also very stiff and awkward as he walked out.

The freeps are objecting to bigotry? Isn't that special.

8. but calling Obama "The Messiah" is perfectly acceptable.
I've been wondering -where are the so-called Christians when Hannity and Rush break one of the Ten Commandments at least 20 times per show? Do they not have a problem with the title of their Lord being used for cheap political theatrics?

28. taking the lords name in vain, yes
a usual sign of racism, no. Their argument makes no sense. Clearly Republicans felt so strongly about this they only plopped Tom Delay on his show the other day. So I think it's safe to say their own party is clueless to the logic of this "racist" assault.

4. I was watching MSNBC during the Jindal fiasco and I never even noticed the
'oh god' but if I had, I probably would have thought it was coming from my subconscious mind.

Chris Matthews isn't a liberal, but if MSNBC replaced him, they'd probably replace him with someone liberal because of Countdown and Rachel Maddow's ratings. But they won't. It's all about ratings. Chris matthews still pulls in ratings.

Freepers are at a loss these days about what to complain about because they have leaders like Bobby Jindal, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh to run their party. I guess they're pretty desperate.

7. I think Chris's comment was because of the rediculous entrance Jindal
made. He was aparently trying to make some grand entrance like a President does when he walks down the hall of the WH. You folks aare reading way too much into it.

it was kind of weird if you saw the circular staircase the whole setup was bad, just like Jindal's speech.

9. Not Bigotry
There is no real evidence that Matthew's comment was about Jindahl. Could have been about another situation entirely. That being said, I don't care for Matthew's style, but I've never taken him for a bigot. Rather he reminds me of an over grown yellow Lab, that's never really outgrown it's Lab puppy exuberance, awkwardness, and that special Lab pup naive stupidity.

I think Matthews is a bright guy who tries hard to be cognizant that the social programming he grew up under is narrow in focus, limiting in scope and needs to be replaced with a more expanded and modern point of view. His heart is in the right place, but he is often quite terribly awkward in his self expression. Not to mention at times misinformed about current events.

It is my opinion that the Freeps all share the symptoms of some bizarre and as yet unnamed version of a Paranoid Personality Disorder.

10. It wasn't bigotry
dumb fucks don't know the difference. They need to google up the anti-defamation league and watch a few clips of Lou Dobbs or Glenn Fucking Beck describe the 'hoards' swarming over the boarder bringing disease and crime. Stupid slack-jawed cretins. That comment reminds me of a friend who told me about her parrot. The bird spoke phrases he'd picked up at inopportune times. Like when her dad rounded the walk, to head toward the back door, the bird would say, "Oh, God, here comes your father". Apparently this parrot also occasionally quipped "Where's your stash".

33. Yep
That parrot had to stay with this gal and her husband for a short while because the parents were going to be away. They were trying not to say anything inappropriate that the bird might pick up. A guy they knew came over right after work after a harried day. She said he rushed in through the door, sat down immediately, and asked "Where's your stash?" One time. Supposedly the parrot didn't repeat it until her mother came to pick him up.

15. careful now .... you could be handsomely attacked by some DU folks
For some reason, there is a large group here at DU that has actually been defending Jindal at every turn. The appear to be more loyal to him than to our own. I just don't understand why their personal halo is so more important than the group .... but it is.

There was a big brouhaha last night over something stupid like using his given name of piyush. Evidently, that is a hateful remark, but calling a different republican an ass hole is acceptable. go figure .....

17. Don't exaggerate.
They are not "defending him at every turn." Some of them just didn't want to see us become what we hate: namely, people who make fun of others merely for their ethnicity. There are plenty of OTHER reasons to ridicule Jindal, after all.

Now, as to the "Oh God" remark: It is no big deal, but of course the wingnuts are trying to make it into one. The MSNBC talent dare not say, or do, anything that might possibly be grabbed and used by them to whip up a shitstorm about how "offensive" it was and how they should be "fired" for saying it. Doesn't everyone know that by now? Even Tweety. It's a good thing he stepped up and took responsibility right away, because if he hadn't, they'd still be trying to pin it on Keith--and while they'd love to bag Tweety, the guy they REALLY want off the air is Keith.

26. And Keith is the biggest draw for MSNBC, so they won't have
much luck with that.

They keep screaming about "MSNBC's dismal ratings," but don't seem to understand a couple of factors:

1. Fox is the default news station in barber shops, airports and gyms - places were few people even bother to look at the tube; and,
2. KO kicks BO's butt in the money demo. Most of Orally's audience is over 70 and dying out. Keith's is growing in the 25 to 55 range - and making money keeps one on the air.

30. I am NOT exaggerating .... you miss the point
I understand what your thought is, but I largely disagree. The compromise would be that I think we should not strike first, but when it comes to self-defense, we should give what we get.

There is a huge republican media machine out there, and it will run right over the top of us if we simply stand by and let it do just that. Those like Limbaugh have to be met with an equal amount of tenacity and rigor. To do otherwise is to let the opposition define our party and motives. We need to draw clear distinctions, and seize each opportunity to do so.

Aspects of the “politically correct” argument are little more than elitism and represent intellectual pride more than anything of substance. It gives those who hurl it the opportunity to polish their halo with the tears of other people. While not directly feeling the brunt of any attack, they sideline and pontificate on the “moral and appropriate” response.

I say, bring a gun to a gun fight, bring a knife to a knife fight, and bring boxing gloves to a boxing match. To do anything less betrays the party, the constituency, and those who donate time and money in support of a candidate.

John Kerry was a good example of giving it to his supporter’s right up the ass after they worked so very hard for him. Bush was beatable, Kerry had tons of money and activists, and yet he betrayed every one of us when push came to shove.

Don’t start it, but bury the fucker if they do. I resigned myself from the tweed coat and hat crowd in 2004.

Attacking your own in support of the opposition is not a brilliant strategy by the way. I know that this is your every intention, and that it feels good on your ego .... but it is a lousy way to win a war.

some folks were using Jindal's given name to draw attention to his otherness, like how many Repubs and Freepers would roll out the whole Barack Hussein Obama thing during the election.

27. From MSNBC - MSNBC's Chris Matthews explains 'Oh God' remark
By DAVID BAUDER
updated 7:44 p.m. ET, Wed., Feb. 25, 2009

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29388251/

NEW YORK - MSNBC's Chris Matthews said he was surprised by the "peculiar stagecraft" of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal's response to President Barack Obama's speech to Congress, leading him to quietly say "Oh God" as Jindal approached a microphone.

The remark inspired a brief Internet guessing game about who had said it and questions about whether someone at MSNBC was mocking the Republican governor.

Matthews' barely audible "Oh God" appeared to be a classic case of someone talking on TV without realizing their microphone was on, and potentially embarrassing to a network many Republicans already regard with suspicion because of left-leaning talk shows by Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.
