I wish everybody would quit panning the "pork"
in bills unless they know something about it. Jindal is just the latest example of someone who took one look at an item and decided it had to be frivolous. He no more knew what it really was or why it was justified. Palin and fruit flies is another example. They aren't alone.

There are wasteful projects, but too often nobody looks at what the end result of any of the projects will be. AND few will try to explain what they really are because they don't want to be labeled as supporting junk. If you've read the titles of papers much less bills, it sounds like a foreign language. They don't cut to the chase and say right out what it does. That's great for peer review, but not when trying to get funds.

This country is continuing a downward spiral in which science is held in low regard. If so many people believe in creationism, they will believe anything. We need to get ahead of the curve on research. I don't even think we are on the curve.

1. Monkeys have thrown feces at things they don't comprehend for ages.

3. I know.
It still pisses me off. Jindal has a degree in biology from Brown. I ponder the meaning of that sometimes. As Dan Quayle once said, "What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is."
Just about sums it up.

2. I'm with you, Grits. Same goes for ear-marks.
One man's pork is another man's representation in government.

Earmarks are a way for a Rep to get money into his district to help his constituents. It's used to build much needed infrastructure without intervening governmental agencies taking control of it.

Can it be abused (bridge to nowhere)? Sure. Is it? Not that often.
