cnn: Growing hate groups blame Obama, economy
this is some scary shit

(CNN) -- Don Black says he despises Barack Obama. And he says he believes illegal aliens undermine the economic fabric of our country.

Black, a 55-year-old former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard, isn't the only person who holds such firm beliefs, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which today released its annual hate group report.

The center's report, "The Year in Hate," found the number of hate groups grew by 54 percent since 2000. The study identified 926 hate groups -- defined as groups with beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people -- active in 2008. That's a 4 percent jump, adding 38 more than the year before.

9. Indeed. If there were a deity, I'm sure it would be shaking`
its head in puzzlement over this kind of thing. That photo, by the way, was taken in Nebraska in 2008, which give me another state to avoid.

I've heard a lot of casual racist talk, even here in Minnesota, lately. It's disturbing.

15. I have noticed it seems to get more hateful with each passing
week and I see no reason to assume that it will be letting up soon. Things are going to get tough in the future and when that happens there are always a certain amount of people who need to have someone or something to blame their failures on.

instead of feeding their fear, ignorance, and hatred.

19. Maybe in the short term, but taking in to account the price Germany paid for riding that Tiger.
"There's no money in enlightenment, lots of money in hate."

However sad to say it I do agree with you, tom_paine, in the sense, the corporate media and American Corporations in general have been notoriously myopic regarding the long term future consequences of their actions or the lessons of history.

I guess one can always hope, the Internet will eventually influence the corporate media to get some prescription glasses.

30. Where there's life, there's hope, that's true.
And Obama does indeed give us the best hope we've had since JFK and perhaps even FDR.

But as for the Corporate Controlled Media getting some prescription glasses, I am afraid the only true prescription is break up the media monopolies and reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine.

24. Not just "part of" the repig base
They are the repig base. Karl Rove and the Merry Band of NeoKKKons pointed and admittedly went after every form of nnnnnnnnnnnnnut they could find to bring into their party: Klan nnnnnnnnnnnuts, religious nnnnnnnnnuts, end-of-the-world nnnnnnnnnnuts, pro-fetus nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnuts, pro-war (but strangely non-volunteering) nnnnnnnnnnnnuts, NRA nnnnnnnnnuts, creationist nnnnnnnnnnnuts... you name it. If it could be led by the nose through some weirdo-bizarro-extremist philosophy that no human with two brain-cells in the same orbit could possibly believe, RoveCo went for it.

And they every one vote Repig.

Thanks to Rove and the NeoKKKooks, look what's left of the GOP now. Freepers and sheet-and-diaper-wearing freaks. There's nothing left over on that side but a bunch of people who'll trespass into your back yard to steal the sheets off your line and the wood off the side of your shed to burn a cross in someone's yard they don't know and beat them with a Bible they don't read.

Republicans: the Party of Granola. What ain't nuts is flakes.

President Obama, please, send in the Marines to shut down these Klan rallies and cross burnings.

Then jail these hate group people as enemy combatants.

18. Can't be done. It's the First Amendment, and it applies
even to racist cretins.

Instead, what's needed is that the local community in areas where this is happening to stand up, face down these morons, and expose them, by name.

There's a great scene in "To Kill a Mockingbird," where a bunch of racist a-holes show up to drag the black man off for a lynching. Scout notices one of them, who is the father of someone she goes to school with and calls him out and asks him to say "Hey" to his son. That ends the scene.

If local people who know these idiots will expose them to the light for what they are, they will shrivel up and go away, like a slug sprinkled with salt.

29. Huh? No. If we do that, then the next time some right winger is
President, his followers might think that your gathering to protest something should be an exception to the First Amendment.

The First Amendment is not something that can be disabled simply because you don't like what a particular group is saying. It is not thoughts and speech that harms people. Only actions do that. When the KKK cretins come to someone's property, threaten them, trespass, and burn crosses on that person's property, then they have acted illegally, and the First Amendment does not apply.

For a right to be valid, it must be valid for everyone. Mere dislike or disgust at some group's expression of that right is not reason to bypass it.

Sorry, but that's the way it works. Deny free speech to one person or group, and you will someday not have it for yourself.

Lou Dobbs with his "illegals" rants as well as faux and the others are guilty of empowering these idiots. Rush and Hannity are these people's heroes to these nuts.

if not, shouldn't their funding be investigated? Can't the NSA listen in to their phone conversations?

There's pretty much an informer in every one of those groups.

31. Remember the Anthrax attack?
The FBI totally fucked that one up. The Anthrax that was used to attack liberal democrats in 2001 and 2002 came from a US Government biological warfare labratory.

There was an extreme right wing racist who worked as a microbiologist at that exact lab, he was caught with the necessary equipment to safely handle the anthrax, and guess what? They accused and investigated a different person.

The bushtapo more or less politicized most government agencies when it was in power. Firing US Attorneys, politicizing homeland security, confiscating all the Oklahoma City bombing documents right out of the chute (I believe they were purged) and so on.

They seem to protect the facists, but have a shitty record with the liberals.

28. Former KKK grand wizard and his name is Black.
If he hates other races so much why didn't he change his name to White or White Power or something.

I don't think he has the power of his convictions
