President Limbaugh? President Hannity? President Coulter?
Sounds kinda' ridiculous, (if not insane), doesn't it? Then again, we're talking about the Republican Party that long ago sold its soul and humanity to three distinct entities: The corporate and Wall Street "Masters of the Universe"; Religious fanatics who can't wait for their "God" to beam them up; And know-nothing people who, (regardless of their station in life), seem like characters out of "Deliverance."

Sen. Shelby of Alabama recently demanded to see a "vaulted" copy of Obama's birth certificate (whatever the hell that is). Newt Gingrich is stealthily working toward a 2012 presidential run that exists only in his own demented mind. Bobby Jindal sounded like a 13 year-old giving a really bad Bar Mitzvah speech. And Rupert Murdoch puked out a classic non-apology apology for a blatantly racist cartoon in his wingnut NY Post.

How can anyone take these idiots seriously? Why is any decent person still paying attention to them? Why is there still an entity called the Republican Party? Why can't any and every human being see that they represent a meanness of spirit that should have no place in a civilized society?

Beats me.

1. We had eight years of a guy who couldn't pronounce the word "nuclear"
Granted, he got to office under rather suspicious circumstances, but still there were plenty of people (at least at the beginning) willing to sing the man's praises.

We also had eight years of a president in the 1980s who wanted to classify ketchup as a vegetable and who thought that "Born in the USA" was a feel-good patriotic song. And there are people who are willing to swear to God that this man "won the Cold War".

8. A famous early 20th century journalist,
H.L. Mencken, nailed it on the head when he said, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."

In the play and film "Inherit the Wind" about the Scopes "Monkey Trial" the journalist was a takeoff on Mencken.

For those who don't know what the "Monkey Trial" was about, Tennessee passed a law in the 1920s that Darwin could not be taught in the schools. A teacher named Scopes defied the law and was brought to trial. He was defended by Clarence Darrow. Scopes and Darrow lost and the penalty was a $100 fine.

Things haven't changed much in almost a century. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

3. Perspective.
All three you cited have as their primary motivation toward their choice of words is money.

It's that simple. If they said the same thing but didn't have their paying gigs, then they wouldn't continue. In a way, they have to keep their acts going if they want to keep the sponsors and the audiences. I'm not certain they believe anything they say. They may not take themselves as seriously as we do (some of us anyway).

There is nothing to motivate them to advocate for unity, resolution, compromise, bipartisonship, etc. When the money goes away, so will they.

4. How long has it been since Newt held any elected office? Aside from his personal baggage,
wives, mistresses etc., how does he have a legit resume to apply for the job now?

5. Actually, it's a good idea
if these people can't fuck up the world, who can? The wingnuts will rest easy at night knowing that heavily armed skinheads are shooting unarmed brown people at will.

The wealthy will sit it out on their giga-yachts.

9. And at least one that would never do so
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Coulter actually opposed to women's suffrage?
