Woman claims she was fired for asking employer to stop sending emails supporting GOP gov candidate
A Kansas City woman claims she was fired after she asked management to stop sending her messages urging her and other employees to support Missouri gubernatorial candidate Kenny Hulshof.

In a lawsuit filed today in Jackson County Circuit Court, Sylvia Y. Grass says she was terminated by Integrity Home Health, a home health care business, the day after she asked to be removed from a list of employees who were being bombarded with e-mails entreating them to vote for Hulshof and discouraging them from supporting his opponent, Jay Nixon.

Grass, who is represented by the American Civil Liberties Union and employment attorney Larry Schumaker, alleges that during the 2008 election season, Integrity’s president, Phillip Melugin, and management personnel sent mass e-mails to employees praising Hulshof, the Republican candidate for governor, and denouncing Nixon.

Melugin today insisted that Grass was fired for reasons unrelated to her request to be deleted from the e-mail list.

3. In Kansas you can be fired for any reason at any time.
It's a "right-to-work" state.

4. One of the worst Orwellian Repuke names ever ("right to work")
"right to slavery" is more like it. And oddly enough, it's usually found in the states that still wish they could actually do that. (including Kansas, which wasn't a state during the Civil War, but was a pro-slavery territory.)

7. all states still have to follow federal labor laws
a 'right to work' state, is usually a state that has no labor protections above and beyond the federal govt's. Wrongful termination is always a civil liable case. Big bucks, sue 'em and shut 'em down financially.

8. At Mr. kt's office, a co-worker sends out rw Christian emails.
It's a small office and asking this person to stop would result in a whole, large scale assult, so Mr. kt just opts to delete. He was hoping to leave this company, but with the economy in such dire straights, he is just gritting his teeth and hanging in there for now.

9. The worst thing we deal with
is mass emails to every employee (there are 3000 of us) telling us about someone who has lost a loved one. And only the people who work downtown in the district admin building can send out an email to every employee. Of course none of the school based employees know any of them but every time a secretary's uncle dies we get an email about it. When a teacher dies, the union sends out an email. But not the district. It's a pretty nutty system.
