Yeah, I want to hear this.

It'll be on CNN next. Saw the picture as they went to break, it's totally outrageous.

14. I went and looked them up, but only after posting.
Usually, I just check GD before I post, but only for that day. Most of us probably do that. Sorry everyone.

23. They're just preaching to their own stupid choir. It's a circle jerk. That kind of bigotry...
Look at how attitudes on gay rights have turned in the past 20 years.

They're on the downside of history trying to prop each other up.

There will always be bigots, etc. But their numbers are declining and their influence even faster.

7. Everyone seems so dismissive of multi-threads.
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 10:47 PM by originalpckelly
There are tons of topics on which tons of DUers post their own particular thoughts as an OP. Where did this anti-dupe sentiment come from for this particular issue?

I could see if it was actually in GD on the front page, but no so. I think there should be a continuing and burning outrage, even the explanation is disgusting.

15. Well, how old does news have to be before it is old news?
As fast as things move here, this is old news. Things move off the front page quickly. But at least it wasn't passed off as Latest Breaking News which I have seen done many hours after a story has broken.

20. Actually, that's kind of an interesting question.
I do wonder what the threshold is. I mean, it seems the general response to new threads on a topic goes, in order:

1. Comment on the new thread.
(time elapses)
2. Ignore the new thread.
(time elapses)
3. Tell the new OP it's old news.
(time elapses)
4. Mock the new OP for dredging up ancient history.

And it seems that people are roughly homogeneous in their responses; there's not a whole lot of variation.

27. Maybe it's like pornography, you know it when you see it.
Or just have a feeling that it is old. I realize that some people have a belief that when they discover something that it should be news to rest of the world also. I always remember how when I post here it says that good citizens look for duplicates, but some do not look past the front page or the 10 listed upon posting. There are those who continue to do this, so I don't see anything wrong with giving them an "ahem" and it doesn't need to be done mockingly.

But if I were to sincerely post tonight, "Well how about that Bobby Jindal's speech? Wasn't it a laughfest?" Probably many here would correctly construe that to be old, discussed news in spite of the fact that some might reply to it like it just happened tonight. It really doesn't take long to look for existing threads and respond to one of them rather than ride through DU and trumpet that the British are coming! (That exaggeration is for effect.)

11. You DO know the racist symbolism of watermelons and African-Americans, right?
This mayor was going for the lowest common denominator here, not making an environmental statement.

I think we all know. And there have only been 4 threads on this, all yesterday. I'm pretty well-connected, how did I miss them and this story?

29. Yes. And that tarnished what would actually be a good idea.
The watermelon shot was definitely made from ignorance and hate.

The guy is a schmuck, I didn't come out and say it because I thought that part was a given.
