American taste for soft toilet roll 'worse than driving Hummers'
The tenderness of the delicate American buttock is causing more environmental devastation than the country's love of gas-guzzling cars, fast food or McMansions, according to green campaigners. At fault, they say, is the US public's insistence on extra-soft, quilted and multi-ply products when they use the bathroom.

"This is a product that we use for less than three seconds and the ecological consequences of manufacturing it from trees is enormous," said Allen Hershkowitz, a senior scientist at the Natural Resources Defence Council.

"Future generations are going to look at the way we make toilet paper as one of the greatest excesses of our age. Making toilet paper from virgin wood is a lot worse than driving Hummers in terms of global warming pollution." Making toilet paper has a significant impact because of chemicals used in pulp manufacture and cutting down forests.

A campaign by Greenpeace seeks to raise consciousness among Americans about the environmental costs of their toilet habits and counter an aggressive new push by the paper industry giants to market so-called luxury brands.

Another time with one of their hoods, and in like manner that was comfortable; at another time with a lady's neckerchief, and after that some ear-pieces made of crimson satin; but there was such a number of golden spangles in them that they fetched away all the skin off my tail with a vengeance."

50. Ja, natürlich.
I must admit, though, that I find this kind of commercial less annoying than the soft sell commercials where they make it seem as if their corporation cares about you. Shamwow is honest: we are trying to sell you some towels because we know you're a fucking messy slob who spills shit all over the place.

For the record, it's true: the Germans do make good stuff.

And if you like Shamwow, you're going to love my nuts.

15. I use twice the amount
of single ply than I do when using 2 ply. Either way, it is as much as is necessary to wipe my parts while keeping my hand relatively clean. Of course, I could use less TP and then use 20 times the amount of water scrubbing my filthy hands.

We can plant trees. We can't plant water.

the point has to do with the manufacture of the soft kind, not its actual use, so using twice as much one ply isn't going be a problem.

I never realized this as a problem, however may have to reevaluate my position on this and begin using a more environmentally friendly product.

I'd hate to consider my self a person who picks merely the most convenient aspects of it, and ignore the ones that force me to sacrifice comfort. I imagine if I did that, I'd be little more than a hypocrite at best.

63. The problem with campaigns like this,
is it makes environmentalists an easy target for ridicule. Is this the biggest culprit right now? No, then focus on what is and when you gain some traction, go back to this as part of a larger policy. Call it 'managing household disposables' or something. I guarantee all this will do is wind up on the monologue of Letterman or Leno.
