BAM - 70 Year Old Woman Thwarts Robber with her Emeril Pan
Four robbers in Elyria, Ohio, seemed to have an easy mark in Ellen Basinski, 70. The teens broke into Basinski's home and demanded money. "One of them picked up my purse and just dumped it out," Basinski told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The thug's biggest mistake was to do this while her prized Emeril Lagasse saucepan was within reach. Because ... bam! "I picked up the saucepan and smacked him right on the head. He looked at me and said, 'Lady, why did you do that?' And I hit him again." Good thing for them there wasn't a Rachael Ray chef's knife in sight. Not knowing if Basinski had anything from Mario Batali's line of cast iron, the teens ran, but were caught before they left the neighborhood. Her husband said Basinski was upset police took the pan into evidence.

1. That's funny but
I am really glad those teens didn't have weapons or decide to retaliate on her for hitting him with the pan.

I'm sure Emeril would be happy to send her a new pan if she doesn't get hers back. :)

11. The calculation is if they had weapons, they were going to use them no matter what.
She made the right calculation. :)

2. From the same link: Lead is natural, and cause of death
Officials in Kansas City, Mo., are taking a closer look into the death of Anthony Crockett, 49. When paramedics picked him up at his home, they saw several prescription medications and ruled his death was from natural causes. The police and medical examiners did not disagree with that assessment. But workers in the funeral home had to disagree when they found three bullet wounds in Crockett, including two in his head. That led police to reopen the case.

8. ROFL!

I'd say that some of these were tall stories, but, being a retired social worker, I know that they're true (people are just plain weird, and life is a three-ring circus).

4. Good for her
We've got to take our society back from these out of control teens. Perhaps the little delinquent will think twice before breaking in on a person again.

14. Bam! Chef Emeril Lagasse replaces pan 70-year-old Ohio woman used to fend off attackers
ELYRIA, Ohio - Chef Emeril Lagasse says he felt so bad when he heard a woman lost one of his trademark pans while warding off home intruders that he's replacing the item. Lagasse is sending 70-year-old Ellen Basinski a whole new set of his signature cookware.

She used her favorite pan to fight the intruders at her home west of Cleveland on Tuesday. Police then took it from her to be used as evidence.

Basinski was on the phone with her husband when the teens pushed their way into her home.

Her husband, Lorain County Judge David Basinski, overheard the scuffle, called 911 and raced home. Meanwhile, his wife says she grabbed the 5-quart saucepan and hit one teen, who was going through her purse.
