Even if America were to believe the GOP is standing on principle...

Let's suppose, just for a nanosecond, that Republican leaders were truthful, when they trotted out this latest version of "We have finally found our moral bearings, and must now show the world how principled we are."

Of course this would require a huge disconnect from reality. But let's, for a nanosecond give them the benefit of the doubt, and agree that they want to be known as fiscal conservatives now.

IT'S THE ABSOLUTE WRONG PRINCIPLE FOR THE WRONG TIME. IT IS COMPLETELY OUT OF TOUCH WITH WHAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS.
THIS LINE OF THINKING ONLY UNDERSCORES HOW OUT OF TOUCH AND BEREFT OF IDEAS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS BECOME.

REPUBLICAN VOTERS, SNAP OUT OF YOUR HYPNOSIS AND WAKE UP!! THROW YOUR PARTY ASIDE, IF IT DOESN'T REPRESENT YOU. AND MAKE NO MISTAKE, IT DOESN'T, UNLESS YOU ARE A WEALTHY POWERBROKER.

The media makes a big deal of their principled stance, but what they do not shed light on is how this stance does nothing but hinder Americans. How does their stance put jobs in the unemployed's hip pockets? How does their stance help those who can barely survive on foodstamps? How does their stance keep REPUBLICAN households who are to be foreclosed on from crashing and burning?

When a man's house is on fire, he shouldn't be standing, watching it burn, saying "The water is too expensive." And that is the "philosophy du jour" for republicans.

I don't know. Maybe it's the only stance they have left to take.

1. Their principle is greed and power, so they are true to that.

3. America doesn't believe it and Bill Kristol proved they have no principles.

From his article yesterday:

"if they can find reasons to obstruct and delay. They should do their best not to permit Obama to rush his agenda through this year. They can't allow Obama to make of 2009 what Franklin Roosevelt made of 1933 or Johnson of 1965. Slow down the policy train. Insist on a real and lengthy debate. Conservatives can't win politically right now. But they can raise doubts, they can point out other issues that we can't ignore (especially in national security and foreign policy), they can pick other fights -- and they can try in any way possible to break Obama's momentum. Only if this happens will conservatives be able to get a hearing for their (compelling, in my view) arguments against big-government, liberal-nanny-state social engineering -- and for their preferred alternatives."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/25/AR2009022501756.html

He makes it clear Republicans are to do their best to make sure Obama fails. Does he not understand the consequences of failure - or is it that he just doesn't care? If Obama fails the country fails. I think Americans understand this and that's why Republican obstuctionist tactics won't work.
