The Trouble With Jindal Is That He Assimilated With BUBBA!

Firstly, allow me to apologize for knee-jerking some of DU's reaction to Bobby Jindal's rejection of his given name to racism, or more specifically, the use of racism as a tool for ridicule. DU has never exactly been known for subtlety.

It's so much more than racism. It's how racism led Bobby Jindal to work so hard to assimilate, not just to American culture and an American dream, but to mimic the personal stylings of a stereotype 3/4 of the US - and 2/3 of the South, where Jindal lives - has long since rejected.

About the only place you'll see someone who looks like Bobby Jindal in 2009 is in Southern state legislatures, Southern beer-distributer and sports conferences, and on the golf course.

Of all the stereotypes there are of us to choose from - Land's Enders, Hippies, Yuppies, Techies, Metrosexuals, Rednecks, Blue-Collar types ... and Bobby Jindal chose to pattern himself after the guy who knocks up the cheerleader, spends the next twenty years wondering what might have been, then finally starts writing Craig's List personals about how he loves and will never leave his family, but the romance has gone out of his life ...

I feel sorry for him. I really do.

About as much as I feel sorry for Sarah Palin.
