I just have to say it: Thank God (and Obama) for New Deal II

As an old Rooseveltian Democrat, who has witnessed the intentional dismantling of a once great system of safety nets, this has been a long time coming. It has made me have faith in being a democrat again.

1. he's exactly what the nation needs right now.
Serious, skilled and courageous. After Watergate we had Carter--who was serious but not so skilled. After Reagan/Bush I we had Clinton--skilled but not so serious. Well, in truth we weren't as desperate as now.

He's got a lot on his shoulders--the hope of a nation.

2. Getting a Democratic congress was a BIG part of it. And, now, the presidency.
ER: It's just grand, isn't it?
FDR: Good to see someone in the Oval Office who actually wants to be there!
ER: Isn't it though? That Mr. Obama is such a dear...
FDR: Good luck Old Man!

3. A question that always pops into my head
Do we need so many nets because what we're building is so dangerous?

5. good question.
I don't have the answers, but I hope Obama does. Someone needs to know how to save this country. I will say though that there were good and very important reasons for all of the safety nets which were put into place. The republicans seem to have forgotten that.

4. There is a reason why REPUBLICANS decided to oppose him every step of the way...
Because they do not want to see another FDR and Democratic majority for years to come. They even had the nerve to claim that FDR made the Great Depression worse, because they knew what was coming... A New Deal II

At every step the Republicans obstruct and whine, Obama should raise the stakes even more. The Republicans and the Wealthy Elite did not give a damn about what they were doing to people in this country for the last 25 years, and it is about time they got what they earned.

6. Here's what my 86 year old grandmother said the other day -
she's very Catholic but the gist of what she said rings true:

"It seems God gives this country a leader it needs at just the right time. Roosevelt in the Depression and Obama now."

She really believes God is on Obama's shoulder.

Not the crazy fundie God who talks to Bush, but the kind, tolerant God who cares about everyone. ;-)
