So, I was told to go to the emergency department because of vomiting. After sitting for 5 hours waiting, I was told that I needed a CT scan. After which I am being told that I have a blockage in my colon and that a tube needs to be inserted through my nose to clear the blockage. The tube was as large as my little finger. After the painful procedure of getting the tube inserted, I was assigned a bed and told that I was to stay in the hospital for several days (maybe) After several hours, I was told that another CT scan was needed. I asked why and was told that the first scan did not show what they needed to see. I ask, if you can't see then how do you know that there is a blockage? I know that a lot of radiation is being used for CT scans and that more than one in 24 hours is dangerous. The radiologist told me that it could kill a person. It also causes cancer. I declined the scan but agreed to some x-rays. After which, I am still being told that a CT scan is needed. Three different doctors trying to talk me into having a second CT scan. Now I ask you, does not the Hippocratic oat states "first, do no harm"? I received so much radiation that I probably shine in the dark. I got angry because no satisfactory explanation was given as to why a second CT scan was needed. I wanted to leave, but they refused to let me go for another 5 hours. I finally got the IV taken out of my arm, signed a release and left. Does the end justifies the means?
