Question about the fairness doctrine...
if it were to be reinstated, would it also effect the internet?

Would DU have to be opened up to repuke views as well?

9. So,
If we use the issue of private ownership then, Does that mean if a radio station is private, then it would not apply as well?

I think it is the government tentacles reaching into places they need not be and is taking the attention away from the real issues of today.

10. Radio & TV stations broadcast over the public airwaves.
Or are you so conservative that you think there should be private ownership of the air?

4. It would affect only the public airways. I believe cable networks would
not be affected.

6. Absolutely.
Not only that, it would apply to individuals. Every time someone expresses a political opinion in everyday conversation, one will have to find someone to express a contrary opinion, right there, on the spot.

7. It's worse than that.
The Fairness Doctrine as envisioned for the 21st century will apply not only to the internet, but to public utterances of all kinds. Protests, rallies, even casual political discussions will have to allow for opposing views in real time - that is, political opponents will have to be given the opportunity to partipate in the protest, or rally, or even in a private discussion if they request it.

It's bad.

11. And we could expect to have Fox News counter every statement we make
Imagine, every time we made any kind of political statement of any kind, we'd have 3-4 freepers show up to say the opposite. We'd have to invite them everywhere we go so that they could counter all of our statements. We'd never be free of them.
