what planet is he from?

Brooks: "Obama enthusiastically perpetuates the myth that the American people can have everything they want without a dose of shared sacrifice. They can have health care, education reform, even a cure for cancer, and 98 percent of them need pay nothing. The burdens of progress will be borne by the rich while everyone else can enjoy their tax cuts and go shopping."

4. One of THE funniest movies I've ever seen. People take it and the book seriously, though.
One of my favorite scenes:

16. They *do* take it seriously. Alan "Roark" Greenspan took it dead seriously.
Which, when you think about it, makes it sort of a minor miracle we're not in even worse shape.

20. And another thing...
the neocons aren't even good Objectivists.

It is a little known fact that I am DU's resident Ayn Rand Apologist. I've mostly given it up, but I'll come out of retirement for this thread: Ayn Rand would fucking spit in the face of the modern GOP wingnuts who use her name to justify their fucked up economics.

All these supposed acolytes of Ayn Rand ran their companies, and our economy, into the ground, and now that its time to pay the piper, they're all running around in circles blaming the poor and begging for govt bail-outs.

Ayn Rand would look at these pathetic specimens and think "Ellsworth Toohey," not "John Galt."

22. Oh yeah, and one more thing...
if Ayn Rand had had the misfortune to live to see Alan Greenspan pimping ARM loans to unwitting American citizens, she would have kicked him in the nuts and made him give her back his signed copy of Atlas Shrugged. In a public ceremony of humiliation.

5. Hanh?
I thought it was the other dark-skinned guy who was saying that Americans can do anything without cost or sacrifice. Maybe Brooks got them confused? Or do all the dark-skinned guys look alike to him?

7. Well, they don't *have* to be rich.
Edited on Fri Feb-27-09 11:25 AM by Cerridwen
Give the money away.

Voila!

No more burden and they can take their tax breaks and go shopping.

edit to add: I know of several banks and a couple of auto manufacturers who could use the cash. It shouldn't be difficult to find someone to relieve them of their burden.

9. well, well, well..
the richest among us certainly do know how to whine. It makes perfect sense that those who have more should be contributing more. It is good for our country and it also provides incentive to assure that more of us do well.

10. The rich profit from the progress
guess they should start to have to pay for it too.

I would gladly carry that burden, to be rich and to have the money to pay extra taxes as well as to not stress out about paying my bills, how will I eat this month, where will I get the money for gas, how will the kids afford college .....

God, please give me the burden of being rich, I'll trade and not whine.

The rich have been living off the blood, sweat, and tears of the poor and middle class long enough.

Fuck 'em.

I have no pity.

18. I'd like to tell ol' Brooks that the rich have been shopping and enjoying
their tax breaks for years, now it's our turn! They should have piled up plenty during those good years and they'll have to pull themselves up by their bootstaps.
