Porn in the USA: Conservatives are biggest consumers (Duh!)

Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography.

A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states.

"When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School.

However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.

"Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Edelman says.

Conservatives don't like if because they seem to think it destroys families...although I have no idea how it does that.

Some folks here don't like it because they feel it demeans women...last time I watched some it seemed everyone it it was having a good time and I guess that would be hard for them to fake as they were really horrible actors. :shrug:

I have a young friend (20 years old) who was severely beaten recently during a gay party. To make matters worse he had to return to hostile parents to get treatment.

Like anything else, those who are addicted can over consume and get out of control.

There was a Barbara Walters special on a (female) porn star a few years ago, she felt she had been thoroughly used by everyone concerned, even though she started out willing.
