As if you had to be told. I was just having a conversation with a guy who sells insurannce for a living, a great guy who is dedicated to getting people with disabilities, which most insurance companies refuse to cover, the best coverage he can get them. And he knows in some cases he can only get them a measly something if they hand over lots of dough. That's right, the people who need coverage the most are among those who are the very worst served by the US health care system.
Those people are the symbols of the American health care system at large.
If you need to be reminded of how awful the situation is, go to this Website:

This is the WHO listing of the world's health systems. Note that France, which uses a single payer system supplemented by a private system, is number 1 and high in the ranks in both overall quality and results. Then scroll down--in some cases way, way down--to find where the US is. You'll only find us near the top in one of these rankings:
Total Health Expenditure as % of GDP (2000-2005).
Even as my friend and I were talking about these rankings, and even as he agreed that the US system sucks, he couldn't bring himself to utter the heretical words, "Time for a single payer system." He basically likes Obama, but his poor brainwashed self can't accept the idea that the system that gave him his career (which ain't doing so hot now, surprise, surprise) should be changed.
But it needs to be changed. It must be changed. And it will be changed.
