Contact Senator Feinstein and request transparency - Senate Investigation
Edited on Fri Feb-27-09 01:47 PM by chill_wind
I just did.

What we're talking about:

Senate to investigate CIA's actions under Bush

DU discussion:

Senate to investigate CIA's actions under Bush (LA Times)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3758805

Since I'm on an emptywheel linking kick today:

First, kudos to DiFi for getting off the fence and realizing that an investigation is necessary.

Of course, understand the turf battle going on. Pat Leahy will have an investigation regardless of what DiFi says--and he's going to start it now. So DiFi issues a vaguely formulated leak saying that she's going to cover the CIA's role in torture. And, voila! Now the CIA and DiFi can say try to circumscribe Leahy's investigation. And of course, by doing an investigation that starts with the premise that it is "not designed to determine whether CIA officials broke laws," even while admitting that CIA officers may have gone beyond the "instructions issued in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks." And, finally, absolutely no current plans to make public the results, either through public hearings or by releaing a report.

Call DiFi at (202) 224-3841. Thank her for recognizing the importance of understanding the mistakes we made in the past. Remind her that even . Demand that she meet at least the level of transparency adopted by her Republican predecessors as SSCI Chair.

(bold emphasis mine)

Altrenatively, here's her email contact page:

1. Feinstien held water for Bush policies for last 8 years
Why would she change now

- and yes, she is my Senator too

I wrote her asking for a "Full Investigation" into 911 and what Bush knew and when.
I wrote her asking for a "Full Investigation" regarding False Claims of Weapons of Mass Destruction during the lead up to Iraq War

Time and Time again Feinstien's office has told me to "Pound Sand"

If she runs for "Re-election or Calif. Governor's Office - its time to tell her to "Pound Sand"

2. And you should remind her of that again in your call or email.

3. Diane Feinstein is as corrupt as they come and no investigation
she's a part of will go anywhere. We may as well get Lee Hamilton to reprise his 9/11 commission role. But, I'll contact her anyway.

a horrible sense of it for us. But I can't let her go without a piece of my mind. (I incorporated a little of ewheel's snark about how low her predecessor's Republican bar is for "transparency", in at least making the damn report public when finished. NOT an otherwise defense of Roberts, oy!)
I would love to see a big, very public stink ahead of all this. The Times intimates that story was leaked without firm details yet. Maybe they aren't completely carved in stone. YET.
