when I had to get a copy of my own birth certificate, I had to provide a lot of information about myself, stuff that only I or my parents might know.

That would keep creeps or freeps from getting their hands on anyone else's birth certificate.

Why are we even discussing this? Last I looked, Barack Obama is the duly elected President of the United States.

4. It used to be very easy, just give the name and pay the fee for a copy.

Now it is much more difficult, with identity theft, etc. I got copies of my military discharge certificate, DD-214 years ago by simply calling the courthouse (in a different county) and givcing them my name and the file number. They mailed them to me free.
I called last year to get more copies and was told I have to appear in person, with several forms of photo ID and a social security card to just get copies.

FWIW, copies of these documents are certified and stamped by a notary public, and they are correct.

This whole fake birth certificate thing is an absurd idea out of an old detective novel.

If the is the Gops best work, they are a sad bunch indeed.
