McConnell: We May Need “Epiphany” To Keep Specter On Employee Free Choice

This seems pretty interesting: GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell seemed to concede in an interview that the chances are slim that he’ll be able to keep Senator Arlen Specter in the camp opposing the Employee Free Choice Act, potentially conceding a key vote to the other side.

RedState.com caught up with McConnell at the CPAC conference and asked him about the coming Employee Free Choice battle. McConnell said he was “somewhat optimistic” about keeping his troops together. However, referring to the three GOP Senators who voted for the stimulus package, he added:

“I’ll say I’m hoping for an epiphany for {Specter}. Senators Snowe and Collins will be with us.”

That strongly suggests that McConnell has concluded that this key GOP vote will likely defect to the pro-Employee Free Choice side. Since the Senate vote is expected to be hard-fought and excruciatingly close, that could conceivably prove a big deal.

2. Well, if we could keep all the D's after we get Franken then we would be good (60) but I'm afraid we
are going to have a hard time keeping some of the D's from southern and swing states. If they would just vote with us on cloture then they could vote against the measure and we would still win. Hmmmmm.

3. Didn't Steele just threaten Specter, Snow and Collins....
in an interview yesterday. I'm sure I heard him say it was possible that the RNC would pull support for them when their seats come up "baby". Way to convince people to vote your way.
