Dayton Mother Caught Breast Feeding and Driving

KETTERING, Ohio -- A Dayton mother is facing charges for breast feeding her daughter while driving her other children to school.

Genine Compton was pulled over by Kettering police Thursday at Far Hills and Dorothy Lane while taking her other children to school.

Police say Comptom could have injured her child and others because she was breast feeding and talking on the cell phone while driving the vehicle.

Compton was issued citations for child endangering and violating the child restraint law. Compton told News Center 7 Friday, "If my child's hungry, I'm going to feed it."

Police say it is against the law to drive with a child in your lap. Children under 4 or 40 pounds must be properly restrained in a child safety seat.

In this case, officers said Compton had the child in the lap with the baby's head up against the steering wheel. They say there is not only the risk of a crash, but deployment of the airbag.

Compton said she will take the advice of the officers into consideration, but she may breast feed her baby while driving in the future if she feels that is is necessary.

She also could have been smoking while driving to an Olive Garden restaurant with a declawed, circumcised pit bull in the back seat.

5. I am all in favor of breastfeeding...
But not like that! I mean, really!

Pull over and feed the child after you let the other kids off at school...

And then make your phone call...

7. In her defense, she wasn't fixing her hair also.
I nearly got killed by a guy who crossed the center line and headed right for me. I headed for the ditch and avoided him. But I was able to see the bible he was reading propped on the steering wheel as he went by. It was a VW bus, so the steering wheel makes a nice book holder.

10. My friend knew a woman who was holding her newborn baby in the front seat of the car
on their way home from the hospital when they were in a car wreck. She had a car seat but wouldn't put the baby in it. Her husband was driving. The accident was so bad that the baby was killed. I don't know if they ever tried to have another child after that.

Compton should pull over if she wants to feed her baby, for her baby's sake and for the safety of other drivers and passengers.

16. JFC Woman!!! No one is saying you can't BF your child, you just can't do it while driving.
WTF is wrong with people? I'm about as pro-breastfeeding as they come, have pumped and fed my boys where ever and when ever necessary. HOwever, with a bit of common sense. You wouldn't pull your child out of their car seat to bottle feed while driving, just as you shouldn't breastfeed while driving. Stupid moron! If she insists that she'll continue BFing while driving, then she needs her license revoked. She's not only putting her children at risk, she's putting other drivers on the road at risk.

33. Her friends need to plan an intervention. She needs to have a
picture drawn for her. Or maybe some photographs of accidents with dead babies that weren't in their car seats. And just in case, if any of those families of dead babies were fundies that believed that God was going to take care of them, she needs to know about that, too.
