The Webb "gun scandal" is a plus for us
I don't care how you cut it when we have Dems talking about carrying around loaded weapons that appeals to the most basic wingnut instinct. Thats why you haven't heard any Republicans out raising hell about this.

This story ain't going anywhere because it will only help us.

1. The gun owners love it!
Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 01:21 PM by jmg257
On the gun sites its a popular story! Of course they want the same rights and privileges Webb has - who can blame 'em? So they are pointing out hypocrisy, the draconian law, etc.

2. I know, it also shows how nutty that dumb DC gun ban really is...
DC is just a city and it's surrounded on all sides by gun owning states. (If I remember correctly.)

I'm sorry, but it just doesn't seem like it would be that hard for even a crook to go into VA and buy a gun there under the table. I don't think it's a very common sense thing to say someone about to commit a crime using a gun will be hindered by a registration law/gun ban.

10. Why would a DC crook go all the way to VA to buy a gun
"under the table" when he can just do it in DC?

(Point: crooks care not for laws...gun laws or otherwise)

3. Yes, the Repubs probably won't make a stink about this one.
They can't spin it to paint Webb as weak and effeminate,
so they'll try to ignore it.

Plus, it points out a Dem who doesn't fit their lie
that we all want to ban guns- twice as much reason
for them to hope no one notices.

21. I didn't hear it once mentioned on the TV news today.
Mind you, I only watched for 30 minutes, which is a lot for me. :D

29. I seen it mentioned a couple of times on cable and Webb even came out for a presser
The cable news channels wouldn't even show the whole thing.

28. My thoughts exactly...
can't tell you how many of my GOP acquaintance are shocked to know my liberal friends and I tote guns (one guy even built his own). Hey, while they were avoiding the draft-we volunteered or got drafted. I would expect no less from Webb's staff. He has grown in my eyes and Bush better watch who he mouths off too.:spray:

4. Hey, it's a tragedy for the Webb friend too.
I can't see how they'd go easy on "the friend of a Senator" at all. Maybe it's good politics for the party but, this individual is going to get run over.

7. What, there's a history of getting off because it's not your gun?
Call me ignorant of gun rights if you will but, I had not heard of that. The fact it wasn't his own gun means that he shouldn't have had it in his possession whatsoever for any circumstances , let alone without a valid license where he was in possession of it, right?

But I welcome the NRA hiring lawyers. Sounds like he'll need all the help he can get... and it's not like he had criminal intent at all, so I hope for the best (even if I expect less than the best).

And I was joking about the NRA lawyers. I don't think he will need them.

16. There is a reasonable case to be made if.......
he really had no way of knowing about the contraband and it clearly wasn't his. FedEx is not charged if they deliver contraband either. If he was carrying one of his bosses bags and did not know what was in it, he could well walk, and it would be the right thing.

I am still waiting for Webb to make a CLEAR statement about this.

6. Republicans are using this to do what
they can to smear Webb. You know their basic strategy
Kill any "rising star" Democrats. It is given 24 - 7
coverage on Cable News Channels.

Barr was just on CNN trying to cast it in the worst
light possible and the CNN Host was wallowing all
over Barr trying to expand and ends with''This story
is not over"

Hostetler , Republican, Indianna was stopped in Airport
last winter for carrying gun. He had to have had the
gun in Washington. One story on Cnn and I missed
any other such as MSNBC or Fox. Oh that "librul"
Media.(Sarcasm)

H.R. 1022 introduced by Carolyn McCarthy is the most sweeping gun ban in American History and now has 33 co-sponsors, all Democrats. This one makes the Clinton gun ban seem tame. Call your reps and tell them to oppose this bill. It can and will cost us dearly in 2008.

22. He should not have had the gun at the Capitol. At all.
And he should be punished for it. Pay a fine, whatever. There are reasons guns do not belong there. And this guy should not get special treatment because he is an aide to Webb. Throw the fucking book at him.

23. Crime requires INTENT.
Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 05:49 PM by dicksteele
And there's been NO ONE who's actually
established any intent here yet. So far,
the story seems to be that the aide did
not realize he had the weapon in his briefcase
when he entered the building.

Hardly a situation that warrants "throwing
the book" at him.
