You know how they say "Life is a comedy to those who think and a tragedy to those who feel?"
Well, it just occurred to me tonight: These past few months, I've been laughing like hell at things I see on the news that made me want to cry before.

What's the difference?

The party and ideology in power. That's it.

Therefore, I think I can safely say: Life in America is a tragedy when Republicans are in charge. Life in America is a comedy when Republicans aren't in charge and are desperately trying to get back in charge in their sad, clueless, tone-deaf irrelevant way.

I mean, honestly. Not that things aren't damn crappy right now and due to get crappier before they get better, and not that the old administration didn't leave a truckload of elephant droppings that still need sweeping up. But let's be honest, if Bush/Cheney were still running things, or McSame/Palin had actually been elected, we'd all be heading for the razor blades. As it is, our sentiments range from doubtful to cautious to giddily optimistic. While there's Obama, there's hope, even when there's nothing else.

And while there's powerless Republicans and conservatives in general, there's comedy. Loads of it. Turn your TV to a news channel and every night is like "The Best of Saturday Night Live."

Just please promise me one thing...we won't ever, ever let these Keystone Kops run the country again. Because that would be not only tragic, but profoundly stupid.

1. Unfortunately, these things run in cycles.
I passionately hope it never happens again. I'm not holding my breath though.

2. Oh, it's not that I think conservatism will never be popular again.
I'm just hoping that this brand of epic-fail, completely clueless conservatism, combined with the level of evil genius we've seen in the likes of Cheney, never gets this kind of toehold on the American psyche again.

3. I agree with that. We couldn't afford it.

4. Four Words: "Voter Verified Paper Ballots". Plus one more: "Audits." Remember them.

Remember them well in connection with your elections if you would not care to see the ilk of Karl Rove and his gang seize power again.

5. Agreed.
It's why I love, love, love Jenny Brunner, and will vote for her for the Senate. I just hope we can get as good a SOS in Ohio again. She has made all the difference.
