Bolton offers White House lesson in national securityJim Brown - OneNewsNow - 2/27/2009 6:00:00 AM
WASHINGTON, DC - A former high-ranking Bush administration official says the foreign policy and national security challenges the country faces are more than the Obama administration can handle.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in the nation's capital, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton told attendees that he had some bad news for them -- Barack Obama is the most radical president in U.S. history. And then to the applause of the crowd, Bolton added that he had some good news -- if conservatives "get (their) act together," President Obama "will be a one-termer."
Bolton said that although President Obama has done things that do not go as far as his campaign rhetoric originally advertised, "being inconsistent or deceptive is not the same thing as being a moderate."
"He said he was going to end what he called 'harsh' interrogations, and he issued an order to that effect -- although he also said he'd create a committee to study whether in fact that order would be carried out," Bolton stated.
"He said during the campaign he would close CIA detention facilities, but then he said actually he'd keep them open if they're only temporary," the former ambassador added. "Here's a little tip -- the CIA doesn't build bases overseas like the Navy. All of its facilities are temporary."
Bolton noted that CPAC was meeting on the 16th anniversary of the first attack on the World Trade Center. According to Bolton, because the Clinton administration failed to pay attention, there was another attack; yet today within the Obama administration one can barely hear the phrase "war on terror."
