Obama Agrees To Attend Police Recruit Graduation
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police sources confirmed Friday that President Barack Obama has agreed to travel to Columbus for next week's police recruit graduation ceremony, 10TV's Maureen Kocot reported.
The Columbus Division of Police recruit class is tentatively scheduled to graduate next Friday.
The trip would be Obama's first to Columbus since claiming the presidency in November.
The 27 police recruits gained nationwide attention while Obama touted his federal stimulus plan. The President mentioned the class specifically during interviews and speeches.
Last month, the City of Columbus announced that the recruits would be laid off because of a budget shortfall.
On Wednesday, Mayor Michael Coleman said that $1.25 million in federal stimulus money had been allocated to pay the recruits' salaries through December, Kocot reported.
