Sen. Webb Trying To Add His Iran Bill As Amendment To Supplemental Appropriations Bill
Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 03:33 PM by Hissyspit
Doing it, he says, for purpose of "revitalizing the Constitutional health of our democratic process" re: Congress' authority to declare war. "Any general attack on Iran would be a NEW war..." and should have "full and considered consent of Congress."

His amendment, originally a separate bill, would not tie hands of military, he says.

From Think Progress:

Webb: "We do have an amendment on Iran coming up over the next couple of days. It’s something that I have worked on for a good bit of time. I hope in all of the attention that’s been given to the situation with my staff, we don’t lose sight of the importance of that legislation. And secondly, the other piece of legislation that I have been working on with Senator Hagel, which will come to a vote over the next two days. Those are both important pieces of legislation, and please, let’s not forget that."

Webb’s Iran bill would prevent President Bush from launching a war without explicit congressional approval. His Iraq bill with Hagel focuses on “redeployment, training and equipment.”

5. he's 'trying' to attach it. He needs us to call and persuade senators to add it on
Please call both of your Senators TODAY (he says). You can reach them by calling 202-224-3121 and asking for one of the Senators from your state. You can look up your Senators’ names and direct phone numbers here. (http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm)

Call the switchboard at 202-224-3121. When the Senator’s staff person answers, request that the Senator vote “yes” on Senator Jim Webb’s Iran amendment and in favor of a deadline for withdrawal from Iraq.

Tell them your hometown and that you are a constituent. If you would like, let them know why you personally oppose a continued war in Iraq and a new war with Iran. You can also ask the staff person if he or she knows how the Senator plans to vote on this amendment. Being polite is almost always more effective.

7. I just called both of mine
Alexander and Corker. Alexander always votes with the Repubs. Corker I am guessing will also vote however Minority leader tells him.

9. I was leaving my gym tonight (9:20 pm or so EST) and Fox "News" was on.
I noticed a "breaking news" caption that said a Webb staffer was found with a (loaded) gun in the Senate. I didn't stay to see what it was all about, but it sounds fishy.
