Action Alert: Fundraiser for a Du'er's family member....
Attention mods: I have Skinner's permission to do this.

Last week I posted about my brother-in-law dying suddenly at age 39 from suspected complications from poisoned peanut butter. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=446719

I got a lot of good advice from members here, as far as getting a lawyer, preserving the evidence, getting help for my sister, etc. We have done all we can at this point, but the wheels of help move slowly.

I've never been good at asking anyone for anything, especially for help or for money. Here is the context of the letter I sent Skinner seeking permission to do this fundraiser:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to know if it would be alright for me to do a small fundraiser on your site. I posted earlier this week about my brother-in-law dying, possibly from tainted peanut butter. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=446719 We are still awaiting test results, which can take 6 - 8 weeks.

We had to commit my sister to a psyche ward on thursday to get her some much need medications and help, but we need some help (quickly) with raising some money to pay her car payments, insurance, etc... and to feed her kids. We have applied with some local agencies, but help is slow in coming. Food Stamps are out of the question, as I run my restaurant under sole proprietorship and average sales of $30,000/month gross, and they base their decision on gross income. Being an atheist, I feel it would be hypocritical to go around asking churches to help, although when we had our thrift shop open, we gave away more to the poor and under-privileged than we sold. We did this because churches and people in the community donated things to our shop, which kept overhead down. I also did it because even though I don't believe in god, I still have a soul, a heart and a conscience

I don't want to ask members for just an outright donation (but would accept them), but would prefer to be able to list a few of my websites and with the pledge to donate all profits to helping my sister and her kids. I have a website that sells wholesale products of all kinds, http://www.kingofresale.com , and one that sells wholesale lingerie, http://www.midnitecallers.com , and I am setting up a few pages on one of my other sites, http://www.kingofresale.net, where I will be putting some downloadable software & e-books that I have resell rights for. These will be the ones that generate 100% profits, and are guaranteed virus free.

Thank you for your time and consideration
Douglas Davis

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone can help out, please just visit my sites and if you find something you can use and purchase it, I will donate the profits from the sales to helping my sister and her kids. These 2 sites generate a 25% profit for me:
http://www.kingofresale.com --- wholesale products from home electronics to sporting goods and health & beauty aides.

http://www.midnitecallers.com --- wholesale lingerie & exotic footwear

This site is all downloadable products, e-books & software and generates 100% profits. I have set the prices at the lowest minimum allowed by my resellers rights licenses:
http://www.kingofresale.net --- check out the recipes, paylocker pro, site pro wizard ( a WYSIWYG html editor with full source code that you can change, claim as your own, and resell. Private label rights apply). I also put a donation button on the main page, just in case someone was compelled to just donate, instead of purchasing something.

I'd like to thank Skinner for allowing this, and to thank all of you in advance for any help received.

Ghost (aka... Douglas Davis)

19. My dear man
Why on earth are you avoiding the churches for such a ridiculous reason? You don't have to BELIEVE in them to benefit from them. There are plenty of wonderful churchgoers who would be glad to know that their efforts helpd you and yours.

Also, I don't understand why YOUR gross income has anything whatsoever to do with HER bills -- ESP since it's a sole proprietorship, or more accurately I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with it one way or the other.

Your goal is to help your sister while keeping your own head above water, right? Then please take advantage of all free (or affordabe) and legal means to do that. Please.

Good luck to you!

40. I've been looking thru my ebooks...
and most of them are 2 - 3 years old, and about online marketing strategies and list building and things of that nature.

Do you have a reading preference? I'll see what I can find. I have about 60 cd's with stuff on it.

Thanks for helping keep this kicked!

PEACE!

43. The only religion books I have are Wicca books....
We have compiled a list of some of the leading authority books on wicca and witchcraft that are available today:

In this collection you will receive:

101 Contradictions In The Bible
A True History Of Witchcraft
The Alexandrian Book Of Shadows
Book One of Wicca
Book Two of Wicca
Develop Your Psychic Abilities
The Egyptian Book of the Dead
Healing Spells
Interpretation of Dreams
Protection Spells
The Sacred Text of Wicca
The Necronomic Spell Book

These books are available for download immediately

http://www.midnitecallers.com/wicca.html

I'm still looking for some more e-books that are relevent today and not outdated. I have a pretty good tutorial ebook that I wrote last year. Ebay in a nutshell: A really comprehensive guide to selling on ebay.

I also have one I wrote (started as a parody at the urging of a friend) about how to be a good offramp bum. I can load them up and PM you a link to download one of them if you'd like to check it out.. maybe even critique for me?

PEACE!

47. A teaser.. from one book- - - 101 Contradictions of the Bible
101 Contradictions In The Bible

37.How did Simon Peter find out that Jesus was the Christ?
(a) By a revelation from heaven (Matthew 16:17)
(b) His brother Andrew told him (John 1:41)

38.Where did Jesus first meet Simon Peter and Andrew?
(a) By the Sea of Galilee (Matthew 4:18-22)
(b) On the banks of river Jordan (John 1:42). After that, Jesus decided to go to Galilee (John 1:43)

39.When Jesus met Jairus was Jairus’ daughter already dead?
(a) Yes. Matthew 9:18 quotes him as saying, “My daughter has just died.”
(b) No. Mark 5:23 quotes him as saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death.”

48.What did Jesus say about Peter’s denial?
(a) “The cock will not crow till you have denied me three times” (John 13:38).
(b) “Before the cock crows twice you will deny me three times” (Mark 14:30). When the cock crowed
once, the three denials were not yet complete (see Mark 14:72). Therefore prediction (a) failed.

50.Did Jesus die before the curtain of the temple was torn?
(a) Yes (Matthew27: 50-5 1;MarklS: 37-38)
(b) No. After the curtain was torn, then Jesus crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into thy hands I
commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last (Luke 23:45-46)

54.Did Jesus ascend to Paradise the same day of the crucifixion?
(a) Yes. He said to the thief who defended him, “Today you will be with me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43)
(b) No. He said to Mary Magdelene two days later, “I have not yet ascended to the Father” (John 20:17)

Thanks for passing them along to your friends!

Please keep us updated on the peanut butter as other DUers may need that info in case their friends or family know people with similar troubles. IIRC, there were a lot of people who ate that bad peanut butter. It is so sad you live in a state that figures benefits so stupidly. My state uses net profits, plus household expenses, to figure food stamps and other benefits. Some places will just do anything to keep from helping people it seems. It's such a shame. I hope your sister is better soon.

I haven't been on since yesterday evening, as I've had some other business to take care of, but I appreciate each and every one of you for helping out.

I was going to try to respond to each and every post, but there is only so many ways to say "THANK YOU" without sounding insincere, or like a broken record.

Again, thank you all for your help and efforts. Anything I can do to help any of you out, just let me know.

49. Catholic Charities will help you without regard for your religion, or lack of one.

Look up your local Catholic Charities in the phone book.

Catholic Charities USA has recently launched a campaign to reduce poverty in America by 50% by the year 2020.

50. I haven't even *seen* a catholic church around here.
I'm in the middle of "southern baptist" country where there's a baptist or methodist church on every corner.

I'd still feel hypocritical asking a church for help though, when I don't want anything to do with anything else they have to offer (religion). I can't explain it, it's just a personal issue.
