It's UGLY.
That whole connecting thing is odd looking- and the house and the recreation building needed to be the same color.

20. No big loss, they're mostly those scrub pines from the look of it...
Gawd knows we've got more than enough of those in NC. And they spread their damn orange/yellow pollen every spring, all over everything, besides being a horror show for allergies. They're basically just really tall pine sticks. Although it does look like he's got some hardwoods in between, but not enough and too tall to make anything.

7. Wow! That really is an odd design. But then, again, we're "roughing it" in a 2,500 sq. ft.
house now, with plans to scale down in our 70s. Too much to keep up in a big house. Too much "affluenza" in today's culture. George Carlin said it best, "Your house is just a place to keep all your STUFF in." I think I'm going to take just about 1/4 of what we have to the next abode, wherever that is.

None of it goes with you when you die.

Or, perhaps I've just got a good case of "sour grapes"????

Good night and good luck.

strange.

But, hey, I don't begrudge him having it.

BTW, are they putting a very large pool out back?

11. Local YMCA or your own rec center-Enery cost/benefit ?
do you think the rec center will be used for political meetings? Is this the equivalent of a Western White House.

14. Actually I agree that it's ugly!! Whoever the
architect was, needs to not be an architect. The connection is especially bizarre with all those different sizes. It looks as if it's been hodgepodged together over many, many years and no one ever measured anything. I think it would have been nicer to have the barn, etc. the color of the house roof - an inverse color scheme. I guess when I build my $6 million house or whatever it cost, then I can build it my way!

26. it's that long string of shotgun shacks connecting the two main buildings...
... that gets me. WHAT were they trying to do there?

I mean, it's like they've created the world's longest trailer. Having grown up in a trailer, I can't imagine why anyone would want to include the trailer/shotgun shack aesthetic in their multimillion dollar dream home.

15. That was my impression
The rec barn is cool. House is a typical McMansion.

But the connection? A simple concrete tunnel probably would have been better. Maybe the top 3' or so exposed to allow small windows for lighting, some nice landscaping, and a point where the grading allows a crossing to get to the 'back yard'.

16. Looks like a nice spread.
Haven't heard what the buzz is about. But the design looks much like the Amish houses in Iowa during the last century, box on top of box, on top of another box.

17. I prefer my barn be
separated from my mansion, maybe a stone path, or a garden trellis in between or just a nice lawn. But that's just me.

22. Yes I agree.
The design is a bit odd but it's his house. I've got no problem with the him owning this. It's a non-issue to me.

I wouldn't want a house that big myself. If that's what floats his boat, though, he earned every dime he has, so more power to him.

It's got that whole industrial/municipal look going on.

Gawd, for that kind of money he could have built something really beautiful.
