Besides, the country is divided enough. Why would we want to divide up DU to reflect that division? The idea is to work together to heal the divisions. OK, we get some South bashing threads, but there would appear to be an equal number of city bashing threads and North bashing threads and I could go on. We all get hit from time to time.

Back when I was producing an improv group I used to make an announcement at the end of the show:

"We are equal opportunity offenders. If your age, sexuality, ethnic group or profession has not been skewered during this evenings performance we would like to sincerely apologize."

I could insult New England all day long, and people from Wisconsin and Minnesota wouldn't care, and I seriously doubt that people from San Diego consider themselves "northerners." "The South," because of it history during the late unplesantness, is an easy target.

10. Modern Southern bashing kind of puzzles me....

This country has become extremely dynamic over the past twenty years. People move frequently in their lifetimes, anmd you're just as likely to run into someone who grew up in a completely different part of the country as you are someone who has lived their their whole lives in most metropolitan areas (of which the South has plenty). That's a pretty important phenomenon that regional bashing seems to overlook.

My state is the one where in 2002 a chickenhawk Republican painted a triple amputee Vietnam vet as "unpatriotic" and won a Senate seat for it.
