Unbelievable!

Hubby came home from running errands Thursday to find a police car and a parks&rec truck in the yard. They were loading our picnic table into the truck! The cop said:

1) the table was stolen from the park

2) there were #'s on it to prove it was one of the ones stolen

3) he was going to be charged with petty theft

4) he was going to jail right then if he didn't cooperate with the attemped theft of our property

About that time, one of the numbmuts from the county checked the tables in the park and said it wasn't theirs, after all.

As a result...


A. Parks & rec promised a letter of apology.

B. Hubby filed an official complaint about the violation of his 4th amendment rights by local police, against their whining protestations that he not do so.

C. A LTTE was emailed to the local paper.

5. The cop at the shop said it was a violation.

He said he understood how it would make a person mad to come home and have his stuff being loaded up under armed guard.

Hubby said he saw the Parks&Rec trucks at the park, and one was driving by really slowly. He didn't think anything of it. But he thinks they were probably waiting for him to leave. He went to the bank and straight home. Otherwise, he never would have caught them!

They could have just knocked on the door like grown men and asked him about it.

But it wasn't stolen property. They just thought it was stolen property.

So they decided to get cute.

Seriously -- that is messed up. Piss on them for not addressing the issue in a more mature manner. Sorry for your stress, and I hope whoever concocted this charade pays for it.

I can't help but wonder how many times in the near future you
and your hubby will be pulled over for things like"Your
license plate light wasn't working." etc.I don't know how
it is where you live but most places around here(wa.state)a
complaint like that will not go unpunished.

And if they had actually gone for a warrant they'd have had to make a written record of the source. (Even to say, "It was an anonymous tip.")

and it IS picnic-table shaped. Hence, the confusion... :eyes:

The cop said someone had called to say we had one of the missing tables. I suspect that was just a bullshit excuse in case they needed "probable cause" for armed looting.
