Cheney speech at BYU causes outcry (bigtime)

in the heart of what has been called the reddest county in the nation -- the mere possibility of Vice President Dick Cheney coming to campus is getting some blue blood boiling.

Cheney is scheduled to be Brigham Young University's keynote speaker at this year's graduation ceremonies. While it is a day of celebration for many, some BYU administrators and faculty, alongside parents and students, are expressing displeasure with the VP's visit.

Despite the opposition, BYU spokeswoman Carri Jenkins said that there are currently no plans to eliminate Cheney as a part of the graduation ceremonies.

BYU Marriott School professor Warner Woodworth said that he has received e-mails from all over the world expressing dismay over Cheney's visit.

Woodworth said that some of those e-mails came from parents and LDS stake presidents, particularly in Latin America, expressing anger that Cheney -- whom they called a "warmonger" -- will be representing their children and their church.

Woodworth said that administrators, faculty and even some students and parents are refusing to attend graduation ceremonies if Cheney is speaking. Pickets and other forms of protest are also being planned, he said.

1. Since Cheney violated university's policy, it should be obvious

to the administration that he shouldn't be there.

I think it was last year(?), I went to my roommate's graduation @ R-MWC in Lynchburg, VA. That year, the speaker @ Liberty "University" (yeah right :eyes:) was Sean Hannity. :puke:

5. This is a big deal. Utah is the reddest state and BYU in Provo is the reddest county.

this is the place that protested, and took money from, a college that invited Moore to speak (Michael, not Judge).

If students at BYU feel like they can protest a sitting republican vice president because he is an evil, greedy, liar, Bush and the GOP are in heaps of trouble.

6. the sad part about it

is that they probably don't even consider it to be troublesome. The chimpster doesn't look at polls nor does he read too much (with the exception of Camus - yea rrright). I would only wish that if there were students that truly see darth to be the evil that he is that they would allow him to speak and just turn their backs on him. he would just smirk it off anyway.
