What the Democrats can do when **** vetoes the Iraq bill.
After **** vetoes the Iraq supplement bill, what the Democrats in congress can do is to provide everything that the generals need to conduct the war for six months. Then they could force him to veto a timed withdrawal again in six months. The added political pressure on the Republicans could eventually result in a enough votes to override a veto or force **** to sign it. They could still provide funds for a whole year for armour and medical attention for troops and vets.

1. Why don't they just step up to the plate....
And cut off the funding now? Force Bush to end it and bring the troops back home. If we leave now or wait 18 months there will still be a crisis.

4. I don't know if you are asking seriously or not
But the reason this won't happen is because Congress still has a shitload of Republicans and Bush Loyalists like Lieberman in it. As much as they might want to do what you are saying, they probably won't.

5. I am serious, maybe just not politically astute....
I am very much in favor of "fortress America". Pull back all our troops from around the world, secure our borders, protect our trade with the Navy if needed, rebuild our infrastructure and manufacturing capabilty, reinstate tarrifs to protect our industry and working class. We need a break from the insanity of empire, because a real empire needs to be ruthless and we don't have the will.

8. Damn Straight. Its time to get the FUCK out of the Middle East in particular
Lets put all this money and resources into becoming MORE energy independent. let the Russians and the Chinese fight over the oil. Isreal, you've been a country for 50+ years. you have nukes. Good luck.

Bring them ALL home and lets put an end to this foolish American Empire.

3. I just read that they plan to fund the troops in small increments, making * have to
keep coming back and asking for more- This is more like what I believe is supposed to happen- spreading control and power over all three branches of government.

I think it's important to note that one of the biggest sticking points for the Repubs is that the bill doesn't extend the tax cuts for the rich- how's that for priorities??? :nuke:!

peace,

7. If they really want to mess with the Repubs ...

If they really want to mess with the Republicans, they'll write the next bill to actually remove the tax cuts for the rich. This is very appropriate as one of the primary businesses of Congress DURING a war is actually raising the money that they are allocating. This war is causing a hemorrhage in the treasury. Bush would be put in a very sticky spot of vetoing troop supplies in defense of preserving the tax cuts.

Fighting Heroes vs. Rich Fat Cats ...

This is a battle the President cannot win. If the Democrats wanted to sweeten the deal they would add a new tax bracket PLUS institute windfall taxes for war profiteers and the Petroleum Industry.
