iPhone Card Counting Scandal Leads To Increase In Online Gambling

iPhone Card Counting Scandal Leads To Increase In Online Gambling

Banned From Casinos The iPhone can be used for many things, as commercials for the product have detailed. The one thing that it will not be used for is card counting in a land based casino. Once they found out the phone had a card counting application, the situation was immediately dealt with.

It is now illegal for anyone to use the card counting application at any land based casino in the US. The crime is a felony, and is punishable in all states. May casinos have banned people from even bringing the iPhone into their casinos.

That has left many owners of the popular phone to look elsewhere for their entertainment. People who frequented casinos all across the US are looking for new places to do their gambling.

Online casinos have become the beneficiary of the iPhone controversy. Already a growing industry, several online casinos have reported an increase in customer deposits since the iPhone scandal has broken out. The figures are expected to rise even more with casinos starting to institute the ban.

Several other factors have also led to the online casino boom in the US. Smoking bans have been put in place in many states, leaving smokers to stay at home and gamble instead of going out to smoke free casinos.

1. I don't see anywhere that it is illegal in every state due to federal law.
Considering the source of the article I bet they are just trying to imply that it is illegal in every state. Rather, the articles I have read so far indicate that it may be illegal in Nevada and it is left up to other casinos as to whether I-Phones are banned.

2. I sure do wish this site would cite the law they're referring to.
Card counting in and of itself is not illegal. It's just something the casinos hate because, if you're good at it, you can actually eke a one percent profit out of the house over the long term. This is assuming you don't tip the dealers or cocktail waitresses and you don't deviate your play in any way whatsoever from the proper strategy, and further assumes you can change your bets with the count without attracting unwanted scrutiny.

Good luck.

All this to keep that one person in 250 who has the brain power to do it right from siphoning a few bucks away from the casinos' bottom lines. Of course, most of them have just fucked the game beyond recognition to keep pretty much anybody from winning at this point anyways. 6:5 payoffs or 1:1 payoffs on blackjack, random ejection shuffling machines, and any other gimmick they can think of in their insatiable greed. :puke:

3. "THEIR inatiable greed"...??? ummm- what about the gamblers themselves?
if it weren't for THEIR 'insatiable greed', the casinos wouldn't even be in business.

6. What about them?
99.5% of them (the gamblers) know just enough about the games they play to sit there and lose their asses like good little sheep. I worked at live table games for 10 years and went out of my way to educate the few players who would listen on the best ways to go about the games. More than a few of the ones who did listen ended up having a lot more fun.

It's the casinos who are afraid of the opposition having even the slightest edge. Most of the players wouldn't be able to tell you the difference in odds on Don't Pass/Don't Come bets at the dice table with full odds vs. an American-style, double-zero roulette wheel if you put a gun to their heads.

9. the point is- nobody does put a gun to their heads...
they gladly come to the casinos, empty their pockets(and then some), and leave.

it's the perfect business.

you can't blame the casino owners.

btw- iirc, when i was in vegas, the hotel hasd info on the odds of every game in the info available in the room.

7. That's a novel approach to promote riverboat casinos.
Don't most casinos already make card counting all but impossible by using multiple decks, reshuffling, and similar strategies? Even if this program is really good, it's still not going to cost the casino as much as they will be making off the novice users of it.

8. That's funny, the counting apps don't work online because the cards are based on pseudo random #s.
