1. I think he'll veto it
he's made two VERY public and very adamant speeches saying he would. I don't see him swallowing his pride at this point.

5. Why does he hate American Citizens? He wants money ONLY for Iraq and NONE for US.
I don't think his veto will sit well in the "heartland."

30. Well, they passed the House bill but I'm not sure if they added amendments
Either way, we control the conference committees so there should be no problem there.

4. He'll veto it. That was the whole point of bringing it to his desk.
Make him veto a hundred more. Put the Republicans on record as being the party that wanted us to stay in Iraq.

Alot of people around here don't seem to understand the strategy involved here. This is a game of chess, and we have too many checkers players here.

8. Also puts the Republics on record as being the party that won't support the troops
That's the real icing on the cake. "Bush Denies Funding to Our Troops." That headline'll be a keeper.

10. Let the son of a bitch veto it!
The majority of the American people want the Repulican-Iraq war to end.

We know it is based on lies.

It's bankrupted our country.

It's put us in greater danger.

Let the SOB go on record as with a veto. It will show HE doesn't support the troops, he just wants to keep them over there indefinitely so they can continue to be killed and crippled.

SOB.

because he doesn't have his way, and those threats against Dems and some Repigs must stop, or maybe they will see how out of control he is.

11. When he vetoes, I want to hear ...
... "President Bush* is holding the troops HOSTAGE to his political agenda! He has denied them the funding they need to defend themselves and won't bring them home!"

I want to hear that over and over and over and over and over. Any "Democrat" who doesn't repeat this at every opportunity is dead to me.

12. First the two bills have to be reconciled. Some terms are quite different,
including the terms of withdrawal (firm deadline vs goal, September 2008 vs March 2008)...

20. The instructions to the conferees on commit will be very telling.
I expect/hope the House will prohibit its conferees from yielding on either the deadline or the dat.

17. And why was a supplemental funding bill necessary?
After all, wasn't the last Congress (Republican dominated and controlled) supposed to pass a budget for the year? They did, but the left off some important items for funding. And Chimpy got a chance to crow about how his policies were working, and the annual budget deficit was getting smaller. A lot of media chuckleheads willingly fell for it, and spun stories about the robust economy that was about to come roaring back.

Funny thing, though. The deficit numbers looked better mostly because funding for the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan wasn't included in the budget passed by Congress last year. I'll bet your monthly finances would look a lot better if you left off your rent or mortgage payment, huh?

But the bill's coming due, and the grown-ups in power in the White House don't much care for the terms.

18. let him veto it
then the onus is on *W. The '06 election was a referrendum on the Iraq *war, with the majority of the people wanting out of Iraq. This congress has provided precisely that. He vetos it, egg on HIS face.

31. I hope
everyone will join me in writing their elected representatives, encouraging them to stand tall in the face of the veto threat. The Legislature is OUR voice to the Executive branch. E-mail/phone/postal mail the hell out of the Congress. I'm sure they are getting tired of me :)
The Congress will only act if they are convinced it's what we really want....
