Gonzales Lied
~snip~
"I don't think the attorney general's statement that he was not involved in any discussions about U.S. attorney removals is accurate," the former aide, Kyle Sampson, told a Senate committee looking into the firings of eight U.S. prosecutors.

14. Lying to Congress is a crime even if not truly perjury
He committed a crime and he is our chief law enforcement official. What does that tell us about this Administration?

2. I just listened to Sampson's opening statement again...
what a twerp! A second seater with some law firm someplace who gets his big chance in DC and probably loved axing all those USA's. What a little pimple on the face of the world. God!

5. And they relied heavily on a Pat Robertson trained flunky
as their WH liaison! It's more likely they pounded the Old Testament into her brain with greater emphasis than they did the Constitution.

3. Not to worry; WH will spin it that he wasn't under oath at the time
As unbelievable as that may seem, I vaguely recall seeing an interview with someone from the WH (and dammit! I can't recall who it was at the moment) and the interviewer asked point blank: "You don't believe the President has an obligation to tell the American people the truth???" Answer: No.

The context was that in front of the mics and questions to the press, lying is a protected right of the Administration.

12. LOL! Least I know I didn't dream it though
:hi:

It took a good hour or two before my jaw was scraped from the kitchen floor when I heard that interview. It was quite a while ago, but when I went googlegrundging it was nowhere to be found.

9. But he was under oath at the time.
At least that's how I recall it. In fact, I'm pretty sure of it. The WH will have to find another excuse.

13. I think they were referencing his statements through the press
vs. statements to Congress. I may be wrong about that, but I'm not sure Gonzo has actually testified about the USA's at this point.

Again, I may be wrong. It's hard to keep up sometimes.

11. Yep. They're doing the warm up on this baby: lying is a virtue
"So what if the president lied us into war? It's not illegal, not impeachable," is the meme.

Well, if the Constitution enshrines representative government, and the president swears to uphold same, then when he lies to and deliberately deceives the people in order to get them to comply with acts that they would not otherwise comply with, then he has defrauded them of their Constitutional government. Unfortunately, the GOP gangsters see nothing wrong with that.

or for USA's to be manipulated in pretext to setting political advantage in upcoming elections.

But that was before Bushetals were handed the Executive Branch of government.

10. Can't wait for the "I'm a little fuzzy on THAT, I really don't remember" inexcuseable........
defense. If ALL of these key government officials have such BAD MEMORIES then it is DEFINITELY time to replace with people with good memories.

16. But. . .but that can't be true
I thought the "activist" judges had declared that lying is permissible as long as the perpetrator is a Republican. . .cuz that means God said they can lie when it is for political purposes and they claim they are doin' His/Her work.

18. "Lie" The word that disappeared from the America lexicon circa 2001
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Attorney General Albert Gonzales was wrong when he said he was not involved in discussions about the planned firings of federal attorneys, his former top aide testified Thursday.

Gonzo wasn't wrong, he was lying, because an acknowleding that he was present and very much an active participant in the Saturday Night Massacre Part Deux was damaging to him. Scooter Libby didn't misremember leaking Plame's identity, he also lied. Bush didn't mislead us into war with Iraq, he very deliberately and forcefully lied us into it. Dick Cheney lies every time his lips are moving.

The corporate media's refusal to call a spade a spade is infuriating though I think most people with two working brain cells know how totally corrupt the Republican party in general and this administration in particular truly is.
