GOP senator halts hearing on attorney firings
Democratic panel chair Leahy says Justice Dept. motivation was improper

Updated: 1 hour, 11 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - A Republican lawmaker used a rarely invoked Senate procedure to halt the testimony of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales’ former chief of staff Thursday, NBC’s Mike Viquiera reported.

The move came just as members of the Senate Judiciary Committee reconvened a hearing in which Kyle Sampson told the panel that Gonzales, his former boss, wrongly stated he was not involved in discussions about the firings of federal prosecutors.

"I don't think the attorney general's statement that he was not involved in any discussions of U.S. attorney removals was accurate," testified Kyle Sampson, who quit this month as Gonzales' top aide. "I remember discussing with him this process of asking certain U.S. attorneys to resign."

Sampson said Gonzales attended a crucial meeting on the firings Nov. 27, 10 days before they were carried out.

10. There is. The guys in Guam/Abramoff/AttorneyPurge
part of this scandal just pled not guilty. The article on that story is very detailed on how dirty this is.

Abramoff asked that the Guam USA get fired because the USA was getting too close to finding out about Abramoff.

15. No. Not Guam
but Samson was letting too much info out on the whole rotting mess of the purge system. GOPers wanted to remind him to keep saying "I don't remember".

5. Fine. Just prolonging the inevitable
The Republicans are tone deaf on how their petulance is playing in middle America. They still are acting as though they control the message, and they look so foolish and cocky while doing it.

Puts a smile on my face every time they throw a tantrum now. They have lost control.

17. They're trying to move it to Friday ...

They're just trying to move the thing to Friday. Dems will skip the Friday news cycle for good reason and this will give the Republicans a little breathing room on the Sunday talk shows. Watch, the administration will role out something big next Monday to trump news coverage of this testimony.
