Presidential dollar coins - good news and bad news
Edited on Thu Mar-29-07 01:36 PM by EstimatedProphet
The bad news is that the series is planned to stop in 2016, with Gerald Ford. So Carter and Clinton are not now in the works for a coin.

The good news is that Reagan and both Bushes aren't either.

1. I doubt they'll make it past Polk
As long as the paper dollar is still in circulation, I don't think people will use the coins.

4. I will
I love the coins in comparison to the dollar. They feel like real money, they're easier to use in machines, they're still new so people are impressed by them. I think they're cool.

26. I like the coins too!
Dollars wear out too quickly.

Although I sometimes put a $2 bill into a holiday card for a small grandchild. :)

27. People will be so impressed
they will collect them all like they did with the Sacagawea dollar and keep them out of circulation. These will be even worse because people will want to have one of each. I'll probably do that and keep asking for bills. I've dealt with the one and two dollar Canadian coins here for four years and I don't like them.

2. That's a good thing to know.
Hub and I are big coin collectors and were thinking about doing the presidential dollars, but guess what stopped us????

Yep, you got it......Commander Coo-Coo Bananas was going to be one of them (or so we thought).

3. Are you sure?
http://www.us-coin-values-advisor.com/presidential-dollar-coin.html#A%20study

According to the new law, a president must be deceased a minimum of two years before being honored on a presidential dollar coin.

By 2016 Ford will meet that requirement.

with Ronald Reagan in 2016 and George H.W. Bush, William J. Clinton, and George W. Bush is incorrect.

24. OK. The US Mint schedule doesn't include anything past Ford.
http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/$1coin/index.cfm?action=schedule

Right now, I'm hoping they're the official statement. The thought of Shrub smirking out of a coin is sickening. The thought of freepers lining up in droves to buy them doubly so.

7. It's not legal to put living people on coins or banknotes in the US
Reagan may get a coin made, but Carter and Clinton and Bush and Bush and whoever wins in 2008 etc won't get coins made until/unless they die in the meantime.

13. Right. That's probably the reason
But as for now, we can rejoice in the fact that Shrub doesn't have successful plans in the works to follow Caligula in yet another fashion.

10. I use them a lot.
My bank game me a hard time when I told them I wanted $100 worth, tho. I thought that was odd. They wouldn't have blinked if I'd wanted 100 $1 bills.
