O.K. here's the link to my first "rough edit" version of Stephen Colbert's video editing contest!
Let me know what you all think, I really am looking for constructive criticism here. I'm hoping to make this good enough to get it on "The Colbert Report" and, if nothing else, use it in my Edit Reel.

Here's the deal: Steven Colbert issued a video editing challenge to ALL in response to Rep. Rom Emanuel's charge that he edits his interviews with U.S. Congress people to make them look silly!

So he did an on-show interview with PBS's Gwen Eiffel, posted the video at www.colbertnation.com and said Edit away!

Here's the link to the source video:

Here's the video of the challenge: <http://www.comedycentral.com/sitewide/media_player/play.jhtml?itemId=84197>

Also, please remember that this is Comedy/Satire and does not represent my personal views or those of Stephen Colbert.

Here the link to my edit::hi:

8. I'll check again, but I don't think so.
If I find something that I can make work, I'll put it in though.

6. Hilarious.. If I were going to change anything it would be
the response to the Hillary question. While it works, it doesn't work as well as the rest and that makes it stick out.. Hey, can I ask what software you used to edit this?

7. Sure, I'm using Avid Xpress DV v4.8 on my P.C.
I couldn't remember how to convert the *mov file into something I could edit in my "advanced consumer" editing program, Pinnacle Studio v10.7, so I just went straight to Avid, which is a Professional "off-line" editing program. I then exported and compressed it with Sorenson Squeeze v3.5, which is another Pro program.

Both are rather expensive and complicated, so this is a great project to practice on, as these programs require hands on experience to get comfortable using them.

I don't know for sure, but I would think Apple iMovie might be able to import a *.mov file too, but I've never used it, so I don't know for sure. Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro would probably work too, but they are also rather expensive.

I'll see if I can do something better with the Hillery comment. That was one of my first edits and it is a little rough, but that not unusual. It usually takes a few edits to get into a groove of the project.

10. Yes, I think they posted it as Quicktime video because...
...it's one of the most common and universal formats, and it's also one of the oldest.

You would be amazed at how many different formats and variations within those formats there are now. Plus, they just added a few more since the introduction of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray High-def DVDs. There's literally 1000's of combinations now.

12. What fun!
If it were me, I'd take out the whole first bit about the editing challenge and make the intro look more like a "real" interview. That's brilliantly fun, though! :D
